They censor the word Devil in the Dirt Devil Tire ads. I think that is kind of strange.

10-30-2003, 05:52 AM
Shift you can thank skin ind. ads for this BS. After they released their line of graphic kits the letters section was flooded with letters from parents reguarding the images.

I guess the editor at dirtwheels doesn't watch regular TV much because basic channels show a lot more than what the skin ads show.

they better give you next months ad for free. i know if they changed our ads we place w/o permision we raise hell!! I just wouldnt put ads in dirtwheels anymore, they are a bunch of *****if you look at any dirt bike magazine they have hot chicks all over the magazine, you look in dirtwheels and theres 12-15 year old girls washing quads.. just what i wanted to see

You'd thought they would have at least let you alter the add yourself....if i were to look at the add that they put in, without seeing the original one you did I probably wouldn't notice anything odd, but after seeing both it looks like a big open space there. i don't have eyes like a graphic designer so I'm sure some people would pick up on that, not seeing the original work.

i can see them altering pics that readers send in and stuff, but a paying customer....BS

Dana is showing quite a bit of skin on there too....i'm suprised they didn't cover him up :p

Yeah thats a bunch of BS. In dirtwheels latest issue, which you guys have an ad for Huevos 6, there is a picture with a bunch of girls sitting on a golf cart I think. If you also go back to say 94 dirtwheels used to use models sitting on top of the quads. I have all those issues too. lol

I don't think it has anything to do with censorship.... I think it has everything to do with litigation. They are simply afraid that somebody (with a very small mind) will get offended and sue. While I do think its a bit over the top to blur the word "devil", place black bars over certain t-shirts, or change the ad the way that they did, they are simply covering their butts... Can I say that? No offense intended! :) A good example is that you can't even compliment a co-worker because it might be harassement in the work place.

Thats because Dirt wheels is going soft!!!! ATVSPORT is where it's at bro!!!!! No, for real in all seriousness, I think that ad is bad *** Danny. I don't think there should have been a problem with it. But, what the hell, I'm not working gor them either so... what do I know?

I got the dirt wheels yesterday. I thumbed through it then put it out in the trash because thats were it belongs. The whole rag is 230 pages long. It don't think there was more then 35 pages of acctual text. The rest of the mag was advertisements for 50 shops selling the same parts at the same prices. I read the article on ALBA. The whole article couldn't of been more then 1 1/2 pages long. I had to turn the pages aleast 6 times to finish reading the article. WTF.

Its bull that they edited the ad. It really pisses me off. Dirt bike mags have loads of chicks. Its not that i read the mags to see chicks, its the prinipal behind it. Everything in life can't be G rated.

Last time I checked, most places can choose to print what ever they want. And if they choose to not print your ad how you wanted, then take or business else where.

Should they changed it without your permission? No, probably not, but I'm sure you agree to something when you submit to them. Basically they have full reign over what is printed in there mag.

I'm in a completely different industry so maybe its different at dirtwheels but in the over 80 full color/ full page spreads I have purchased I have never heard of someone changing ad content/layout or positioning without prior written approval. I had someone change my ad position once w/o my approval and they ended up giving me three complimentary reruns & a 2 page editorial review. That's just for putting it on the wrong page.

10-30-2003, 03:22 PM
you should call up dirtwheels and ask them if theyd live there kid alone in a room with a priest and see what they say

counted 60 pages of ads on atv sport and it has 107 pages, i counted 130 pages of ads on dirtwheels and it has 227 pages, so roughly 100 DW pages vs about ATV Sport 50 pages of info. Dirtwheels is the best out there, im so sick of people *****ing about this magazine, you dont like it dont read it. its WAY better than nothing. you want such a good magazine you make it. id like to see a magazine without ads, actually, it doesnt exist, you know how much money the magazines make through selling ads?

Adam202

this info is from a old post about 3 months ago, each page that only had 1 small ad i counted as a half page.

dirtwheels is dumb. i hate excessive censorship. actually i hate censorship in general for too many reasons to get into here but anybody with half a brain knows the effects of censorship. dirtwheels censors the word "devil" for christs sake. just take a look at the GBC dirt devil tire ads or the "dirt d" as they call it. garbage.

not to mention the fact that everything in there is repetitive and imo they don't have a clue what they are talking about half the time.

Dirt Wheels pretty much sucks and is very biased. At least thats my opinion of there magazine. Best atv info i ever gotten was from a forums like this, where you can see REAL rider feedback on certain topics. I will give Dirt Wheels credit though, for such chitty magazine they sure are the most popular atv magazine out there, and thats scary.

yeah but you take the pages that aren't ads from dirtwheels and you read em and you find out they are just ads in disguise!! not only do they favor certain quads but how many features have you seen in there like toomey T-4 pipe, this pipe is the best blah blah, next month issue pro circuit pipe this pipe makes more power than any other pipe, or they will have a huge article on an engine builder or company. i miss the days when they gave out real info and had real reviews back in the 3 wheeler days. if they ever have anything bad to say about a quad they candy coat it so much that you need to think long and hard about what they are saying to realize its somethin they don't like. screw dirtwheels. if i won the lottery i'd start my own quad magazine and it would be just like racer X, or transworld MX, or pretty much any of the bike mags out there. pull no punches on reviews, give out real factual info and helpful tech articles unlike some of the absurd ones you see in dirtwheels, and i wouldn't be afraid to be PG-13. the target audience is 14-25 year olds anyways (i know all ages participate but theres no denyings thats the largest segment of ages in the sport), so if you are one of those stupid parents that overprotect their childrean, and you have some qualms about the content of my mag, then don't buy it. it will be more popular anyways if its not all *****.

400exdad- i understand what your saying. i'm sure i will be singing a different tune when i am a parent. but theres one thing that i'm sure of, i won't shelter them to the point where they don't know the basics of how the real world works or some of the harsh realities of the world. and i'm certainly not going to care if my child sees a siluhette (sp) of a lady in an ad, hell when their little they probably will be more interested in the pictures of guys doing tricks if they are interested in the ad at all, and when they get older i'm sure they could care less about a siluette. if their anything like their old man that is!

Yes, I do agree there are plenty....

Juggalo, let me tell ya, being a good parent is probably one of the most difficult jobs on earth! Riding that fine line.... letting them grow, learn, and become a young adult, while still trying to keep'em safe, is very tough.

I agree that the silouette was no big deal. It was by no means distasteful or could even be considered porn...

i think maybe the point is , where does a Mag draw the line. It's clear thet DirtWheels is very family oriented. I'm not defending them but you can always say, i wont read it and i wont advertize with them. I do think they shouldve told you that they where changing the ad layout though.

Shift DVS, why bother with Dirtwheels. ATV Sport is ten times the magazine that Dirtwheels could dream of being.

One day my friends... one day I want to start my own quad/lifestyle magazine. people would get heart-attacks from reading it. Every issue we'd destroy five quads. And instead of rider bios, we'd have two pro riders fight bare-knuckle boxing no rules and see who's actually better. Tons of naked chicks splashed through the pages and lots of rider injuries.

And instead of dumb tech stories like "how to install handlebars" we'd cut frames in half and weld 250R clips onto blasters and stuff. We'd have funny redneck build-ups like putting CB360 motors in ATC185s and instead of always having "top ten best parts for your ATV" we'd have "the annual list of top ten worst products for your ATV"

Oh, and did I mention we'd piss basically everyone off?

One day, my friends! Who will finance me!?
