Hey, I am looking at a CBR600 motor swap in to a 400ex or 250r frame. I already priced out and bought the 400ex frame. I have looked at motors for it, and wanting to stay with the Honda brand name, have decided on a CBR motor or the XR650 motor, which I know has been done. I was just wondering if anyone had any pictures or diagrams or howtos, on how to go about this.

Thanks in advance.

I am currently almost done with this project. It is for a buddy. It is a quadzilla chassis with a gsxr 1100 engine with nitrous(sp).

Your best bet is to get an older street bike motor. The newer ones use downdraft carbs (or FI throttle bodies) that go where the upper frame rails on a quad frame are supposed to be. The older motors use sidedraft ones which make things a lot easier. I know most of the CBR motors use downdrafts, I'm not sure if they ever had sidedraft carbs.
Here's a pic of mine, it's a LT250 with a Kawasaki GPZ600 (600cc Ninja) motor out of an 86 bike.

I haven't done any runs with my GPS yet. Next time i'm out if it's flat enough I may do a top speed run. With the gearing and tire size I think it's somewhere in the 110-120mph range redlined in 6th but i'm not sure.

Won't a quad start to shake extremely hard/fast at that speed? Or won't you need something to help with downforce? Either way when you do it, try to record it!

Depends on your suspension, bearings, tire balancing, etc. Part of the reason I haven't wound it out yet is because it's freaky going that fast off road! I'm sure sand feels like pavement at that speed.
If there is room on the trailer tomorrow for casper I'll bring my GPS and see if it's smooth enough to do a run.

Be careful!! I had mine up to 94mph on radar and it scared the
!@#$ out of me! We did it at Winchester but the sand was just too chopped up and it was all over the place. At Pismo just above the surf line I know it's been faster 5th pinned but no Radar. On the road I've never had it clocked but mine gets darty at very high speed top 5th into 6th. I think it just the short wheel base and the speed. Like I said be careful and goood luck!

Yeah be careful and good luck, make a checklist the night before you do it and run through it the night before and double check that morning, like I said, RECORD too!:D
