where can you get a kit to make a 400ex liquid cooled?
i was thinking if i ever kept my 400 for long enough, that i'd want to get a big bore in it, like 463, but then you'd have to update the cooling system with a bigger oil tank and oil cooler, but i'd also like to have it liquid cooled.

i dont think so. you would need a water pump in the bottom end, and theres no gears to turn it or anything. plus you would need to fabricate cooling holes in the head and cylinder.

Toadz- Mickey Dunlap at Four Stroke Tech built a water-cooled 400ex for the GNCC's. Give him a call.

anyone know the number??
because if i do make my 400 a liquid cooled, i'll definately be sticking with it for a long time instead of getting that 310R and ZR440 snowmobile....

Expect to dish out some very serious $ for liquid cooling. It would rock, but it ain't going to be cheap.

wouldn't that be great!
YOu'll just get the radiator clogged in muddy conditions and it'll over heat like most others liquid cooled quads....

The water cooled system was too costly to build and my oil cooler system worked better.

They are 500cc motors.

What they NEED is a good trail machine...as in a big bore grunt monster... Stuff the big 650 engine in a modified 400EX chassis, add reverse and now ya got a Raptor killer. There is no need for them to do crap the the 400EX. It needs too much to compete. Its day has come and gone. Sorry, but I think that is the sad truth. BTW I think the 400EX is a great machine, in fact, I can't wait till spring and all the used ones are sitting around for sale. I plan on pickin one up, cheap.

Sounds like some of you are way too hung-up on liquid cooling. The facts are, that for most riding, the 400ex doesn't need it. You are only talking about a 28 horse motor. There are lawnmowers that put out that nearly as much, and they are air-cooled, don't have an oil cooler, work MUCH harder, and don't have air flowing over them fast.

What does it need to compete? It needs the same things all the others need.

I would love to see honda come out with a big bore quad just so people that are new to the sport wouldn't keep buying craptors without doing their homework first . Even people that don't know anything about quads know that Honda means quality and if they had a quad that stacked up against the Raptor on paper and had an aggressive look, it would KILL raptor sales and maybe Yammy would then do us all a favor and stop making the POS...

Sounds like you are a little off. People that have stock 400's are not to concerned about heat. When you start doing big bores and higher compression then heat becomes a problem. When riding XC through mud and what not, thats more what people are concerned with. But I agree, if their was a problem with the air cooled 400 engines and heat to a big extent, Honda would have never made it.

since when do 440-500ex's put out 28 HP? read the whole thread you dip***** and know what we're talking about...the whole thing was about big bores...not stock 400ex's, retard....read carefully next time:rolleyes:

I wasn't talking to everyone, notice I said "some of you", not "all of you". I know that you said you would like a big-bore kit. I have noticed that some of the people in this forum (and this thread) ride basically stock machines, and yet they feel that the ex is suddenly no good anymore because everything else is coming out with liquid cooling. I was simply pointing out the fact that liquid cooling is not needed on a stock 400. I would agree that a heavily modded 400ex would be much better off with liquid. It's too bad that you can't express a difference of opinion without spewing insults like the 14 year old that you probably are. It takes a big man to throw insults across the internet, hey? grow up!!!!!

Flying#5, you've been here long enough to know the rules. Don't make the mods have to edit a personal attack out again.
