starting in gear?

I have a 97 300ex and my friend(cleanshaven300ex) has a 2000 300 ex. well my bike only allows me to start it when it is in nutral while my friend's allows him to start in any gear. does anyone know if i can and how to bypass this? It is a pain in the *** and i am hoping i can change it.

there is a switch on your clutch that lets you start in gear it is probably stuk.

44oEX is probably dead on, we just had to swap ours out on the 300. You can bypass if you want, just locate the switch on the clutch perch and tie the wires together somehow or follow them to a point where you can inconspicuously place a 3M connecter.... piece of cake! :)

yea just make sure you have the clutch in when u wanna start if you do that;)
