The only adjustment on stock frtont shocks is the preload adjustment.Look at the shock and you will see steps, take a punch and hammer and knock it up or down(most likely down) for a softer ride.Same on the rear except you can adjust the compression.Should have an arrow pointing to soft or hard.

actually i think it is rebound but i might be wrong but im pretty sure the adjustment on the rear shock is rebound.

Fronts are preload stock, and the rear is rebound and compression if the shock has cans.. off the top of my head I can't remember if the 400ex's have rear rezzy's?

I believe the rear is also rebound adjustable. Compression is on the can, preload is adjusted with the spanner, and rebound is adjusted by turning an eyelet on the shock body. I know the R's have rebound adjustability at the bottom of the shock, just don't remember if the 400's do.

yep, they got preload adjustment on them. Its on the bottom left side of the shock. Ive never adjusted it though. Just the preload and compression

The rear shock on a 400ex has preload, rebound and compression adjustments. the fronts only have preload.
