What does everyone have for a cell phone plan.

Our local ones kinda suck. Anyone have a nation wide one were you can call anywhere in the us and canada for a decent rate. Mainly on the weekends.

Lame thread I know, but I want to get something different.

I'm with Rico... our company just changed us from Verizon (nationwide plan) to Nextel (nationwide plan)... the 2 way is nice, but the cell coverage of Nextel SUCKS compared to Verizon.

I have Alltel. I get 1000 peak minutes (between 6AM and 9PM, mon-fri)

5000 minutes off peak (9PM-6AM weekdays. plus free weekends)

My plan is $39.99.

I don't have national calls. I was fishing in Canada a few weeks back, and had to make a call to the states, and it was like
a bazillion dollars.

well, one word of advice... you get what you pay for. Sprint PCS, VoiceStream...Nextel...they all suck unless your near a big city. Verizon has the best, next is AT&T.

I had a Verizon plan that was 1400min peak, unlimited offpeak and weekends, unlimited mobile to mobile and it was nationwide...all for $80 somethin a month. Best plan out there IMO.

i have Verizon [nationwide i think] and its been the best company for me so far. nextels 2 way is nice but service is rediculous. nextel's 2 way patent must have ran out because verizon now has 2 way. id say go for verizon. Nextel sucks bad here in michigan, and ive had no problems with verizon.

That's because OHIO is flat. I get 22 miles from my house and loose coverage for an entire weekend when i go to the lake. Nextel phones are not hill friendly...:(

For those of you that don't think a cell phone is imporantant when your in BFE, your crazy. I had Cingular which had very good coverage, but I wanted a color screen. (alright I'm a nerd) So I switched to Nextel because I had a couple of buddies on it. Well no rural areas are hardly covered. Which is where we ride usually. So if we ever get hurt or stranded were SOL.

A couple of years back I went snowmobiling in CO. Well we were inexperienced and got our sleds stuck out in the middle of nowwhere. Luckily I had cell service (cingular) and was able to call 911. The operator was not to concerned. Seems it happens all the time. However, I'm think they have to send a search heli out for us and some dogs to find us. She says, call who ever you rented from and they will come and get you.

Long story short, as soon as my contract is up with Nextel, I'm going back to Cingular or probably Verizion. Anyone know how to get out of a contract?

My wife and I both have Nextel phones. I'm a truck driver and travel every day in the PA,NJ,NY,DE,MD areas including the Pocono's and the Binghampton/Syracuse Catskill's areas. I have no problems with Nextel's coverage. Once and a while I go in and out of service but usually not for more than a mile or so. Maybe where you guys live there is a service problem. But I am 98% happy with their service.

My wife and I have Cingular. We are both on the same plan. It's $40 a month plus $10 for the second phone. So it's really $50 a month. We get 5,000 off peak minutes a month, 600 anytime minutes( We have to share the minutes) plus we also have rollover minutes. That means whatever minutes we don't use each month get added to the next month. So if we only use 300 of our 600 anytime minutes then next month we will have 900 anytime minutes. They rollover for a year then drop off month by month. My phone is a Motorola T720 flip and I like it alot.

Now about Nextel........... My work phone is nextel and it sucks bad! The darned thing never works when you need it. It seems like I'm always out of service. The reception stinks, alot of times the person you are talking to is all garbled. The two way part is cool but it only works right less then half the time. By far the worst cell phone I've ever used and I've used a few of them over the years at work and personal.

My friend has T-Mobil and they're pretty good too. They're an up and coming company. His phone is cool, it has voice recognition. Like if he wants to call me he just has to talk into his phone and say "John Home" or whatever and it dials my house. It's pretty neat and comes in handy especially if you're driving.

The wifey and I just switched from Cingular to Nextel so we could have the walkie-talkie. (Figures Verizon comes out with it a month later! ) The coverage isn't nearly as good, but we rarely leave Lexington anyway.

This is what I have. I use it as my home phone because the service is so good. I have only been without service maybe 2 or 3 times when I go way upstate on trips. Oh and no service on Rainy Lake in Canada :p I have the Samsung S105 color screen flip phone and I love it. Couldn't ask for better service. :)

SO VERY TRUE!!! We always have at least one cell phone in our group because you just never know.
I got AT&T and love it! Excellent coverage, and people joke with me about me riding out in the middle of nowhere, and they hear my phone ringing in my camelback!
As for phones, I bought a Panasonic Duramax that is rubber armored and it is VERY TOUGH.
