some dude at school tried to tell me that his brothers stock 350x is faster than a 400ex, he said the 350x will wheelie past a 400ex going full speed, didn't make any sense to me, he also tried to tell me a stock 250r would kill a stock banshee in a drag? also wasn't making much sense to me, i'm glad he supports honda but most of that doesn't add up to me, he also said 250r would kill a raptor and just about anything else........

the 350X is probably faster than the 400EX. same power and a lighter machine. the 250r isn't faster than a shee tho

I used to race a guy in my class that had a fully built 350X motor by rocky ridge racing in a 250R chassis. he never beat me outa the hole or in a race but he was right there most of the time. Your buddy at school is talkin outa his azzz..:blah:

a 350x should kill a 300ex. and stay with or beat a 400:o

You have to remember the last year they made the 350x was 1986, 17 years ago. So most of them don't have the freshest motors. But yes a 350x with a good motor will out run a 400ex. They are much lighter machines and have 6 speed trannys.
If you think your 400ex is a wheely machine, you should try an 350x:devil:

The 350X motor, in stock form, has slightly higher compression than the 400EX, and creates nearly the same amount of power. In the original 3-wheeler chassis, it is quite a bit lighter than the 400EX.

I'd say it's close enough that rider skill will determine who wins...

A stock 350x should out run a stock 400ex, but a stock 250r will not out run a banshee or a raptor. The 250r has superior handling but not as much power as the banshee or raptor.

My 86 350x motor in a 89 250R frame keeps up with 400ex's. The 350x's had a 6 speed tranny vs the 5 speed in the ex :)

My friend has a modded 350x in a 250x frame and I eat him right up!:D and he's a better rider than I am (which also plays a role).

my 350x/300ex which only has a K&N on it stock 300ex silencer , and a modified FMF 400ex head pipe The motor was another cut out. I can hang with my buddy on his 400ex which has the basics untill like third gear.

The stock 350X motor is listed as 27 hp in the Honda manual, and I believe Honda lista the 400 ex as 28 hp stock.

Comparing "modded" engines is a little bit of a waste of time. But I have owned two 250X/350X conversions with TC motors and additional mods I made as well. We raced them in flat track and MX. We raced 400 ex's, 416 ex's, 440 ex's, 490ex's, 460 cc/350X's, 550cc/350X's, Raptors, 265 - 330r's, various Banshees, LT250r's, Warriors etc. etc.

Some day's you got the bear some day's the bear got you......

Those were very strong motors, and did well even against TC 350X/460's, They often beat 440 ex's and Banshees and most but not all Raptor's, Lot's of r's of various sizes. It depends on not only what is done but how well it's done and how much the "doer" really knows. But to say that because we beat some and lost to others that "modded" 350X's are faster or slower, I cannot do it. They were still competitive though.

They are a tough old motor, but heavy (92 lbs I believe vs 70 something for a 400 ex.), and have a low rod to stroke ratio, which does tend to make them "low tech" motors.

Only good thing is other than the 250r's which are generally the same age, these are the only "old" motors which have been around for a long time and seem to keep on ticking. How many of today's "high tech" motors will still be racing competitively 15 - 20 years from now?

I have Dyno's that show the 350x at 23hp and 27 for the 400ex. They do run close, but the 400 keeps thr front end down better in a drag though.

That could be too I am just going off the numbers posted by Honda. I know the book on the 350X lists it as 27 hp, I am not positive about 28 on the 400 ex, but I believe that is the official #

I am currently building (or rather having one built for me) a prototype "supermotor" out of a 350X engine, and will be ready to test later this year or in the spring. This motor will be made using computor designed porting, valving, stroke, rod ratio, compression, full titanium valve train, and a few other little less public tricks to make it durable as well as very strong. Cam will be designed on the dyno, and the pipe too from some basic options. The head and breathing apparatus will all be fully flow tested, and the end results fully dyno'd.

I may be crazy doing this with an old 350X motor, but something just appeals to me about taking this old "low-tech" motor, and having it kick some younger and larger butts.....

Well I just got some pics of Crazy Honda's 350x that was just shoehorned into his 300ex chassis, so we will know soon how it stacks up against my piped 400ex. I will keep ya posted..........
