you really don't need one but if you got the money and are more than willing to spend it then i would get one you can never be too safe

I'd get one just to be safe. I've read on here several times of members with that comp. or higher blow the stock rod. If i went that high I would most def. get a new rod..:macho

With that kind of compression I would replace the rod if you were staying around 11:1 I would say leave the stock rod.

Don't go with anything higher than 11:1 or you will HAVE to run race gas.I would stick with a JE or Ross piston. With the port and polish and the FCR carb you will be fine against them Craptors:D I would recommend stepping up to a Hinson clutch basket for the extra abuse, stock clutch plates will work fine and are less costly. If you stay under 11:1 than you will not need the heavy duty studs.

what if i get the 11:1 with the thin gasket then will i need the heavy studs and also it will be no problem for me to run race gas

If you go with the thin gaskets than you will be bumping up the compression,so I would suggest that you go with the heavy duty studs.

mine ate gaskets right and left till i put HD studs on. Very good mod if you ask me, the reliability of the machine goes way up. A machine shop installed mine for pretty cheap

I am running 10.8:1 and I need to mix race.

I would suggest a aftermarket rod for anything over 11:1

Just my opinion. That is alot of compression on a motor that is originally 9.1:1

9.5:1 for XR400
