Has anyone ever tried to put an XR400 clutch cover on an EX?

I heard that if you make a plug to plug the kick starter hole that everything would work great.

I was just wanting a second opinion. Since the XRs have a quick remove clutch cover built into the side case this seems like it would be a great setup to have on an EX. I checked the prices through Service Honda and it looks like you can get the 2-piece clutch cover with all the gaskets, etc. for approx. $200.

I wondered this same thing. If you notice on the Hinson covers and such, they have that plug too which tells me all there doing is buying the xr400 covers and slapping there cover for the clutch and selling them for 500 dollars! I would be willing to get the plug and save some cash. I would think any maching shop could make something work.

yep thats all you need to do is to get the plug fabricated.

Thanks PAPPY

That was what I was hoping to hear. I am going to add it all up from service honda to get a cost for everything.

I work at a machine shop so the plug will come easy.

I have one on mine. Got the starter plugged andthen bought a hinson cover that bolted right up totalit all cost me a little under $300, for a new side case, polished it, then bought a new hinson removable cover, and plugged the whole that's a lot better than the $500for the whole hinson side case.

Instead of plugging the hole could you just put in a kick start? It would be a lot better then having to push start it if your battery ever goes dead.

Is that even possible?? Howboutchaw if you do this let us all know how it works and if it does ho much to buy a plug from you?

ya it's possible you'd have to swap out a crap load of internals i think sombody looked into it once and it would have been cheeper to just pick up a used xr motor and throw in there

So it is possible to use a XR400 cover and a Hinson removeable cover together on a 400EX? Right? If so I have got to have this set-up it is so trick looking and yet functional!!
