My current mods are basic. Just the sparks x-6 complete exhaust, ignition key, rev kit, air filter, 14t sprocket. I only ride the dunes and want more power. I ride with raptors. should i get a cam? Which one? Also a carb? Looking for anything that I can do in my garage with the help of a buddy who nows a lot about mechanical stuff. How hard is the install on a 416 bore kit? thanks in advance

406-440 kits are easy enough to install. You just need a machine shop to swap sleeves.

what about a cam or carb, is it best to have a bore kit before I get into those? What bore kit would you recommend?

if you plan on getting a 416 i'd move up from a 14t sprocket, at least get a 15...

i have a 14t sprocket on my 400 and the only real "mods" i have is a slip-on and air filter w/ no lid, and i top it out waay too easily, but i have great bottom end.

If you ride only dunes and are mainly concerned with power - best thing you can do with your ex is sell it. Hate to say it but I just don't think they are good open sand dune quads. I love mine, but I ride it the woods. Buy a big bore R and smoke those raptors.

My 440ex is faster then my 295r ever was or my friends full on ct310r. You would be supprised what a well worked EX will do, I was sceptical too till I rode one.

How much do you wanna spend? With the stock bore and compression, you're gonna be a little handicapped with any other mod you do to the motor. Get a service manual and a machine shop to bore the cylinder then have at it.

Get rid of the 14t and put in a 16t. Then, a 416 with cam, FCR, X6 and some headwork will handle any piped Raptor you line up with. That is, as long as they don't have a giggle bottle.;)

If you want to beat the raptors you will need a 440 kit.
A stage 2 hotcam and 39mm fcr will wake it up a lot, if you dont want to go with a big bore. With a carb and cam you would be able to run with a piped raptor into 4th gear, then fall behind.

A 440 is not needed to beat Raptors. My 416 can do it, and I've witnessed many other 416s do it as well. And a 416 is more ecconomical.
