I currently have 22x11x8's on with a 12 tooth front sprocket (down one for more torque) My question is, if I go to 20x11x8's and go back to a 13 tooth front, will the gearing remain about the same? I am assuming so. My question is, will I have more top end with the bigger front sprocket, on will the smaller tires eliminate that, giving me essentially the same torque and speed, with less ground clearence? Thanks in advance.

Yes, a two inch change in tire heighth is about a 10 percent difference. A 1 tooth change on the front sprocket is close to a 10 percent difference (really about 8 percent). Usually, dropping one tooth on the front sprocket will put your gearing about back to stock when you go up two inches in tire height. Remember though, that some tires aren't really two inches taller when measured, but you'll be pretty close anyway.

Good luck,
Lorrin

Im looking to get 20inch tires for my 300EX, right now it has the stock tires on it and the gearing is stock. If i got the 20inch tires, would i have to go down a tooth on the front sprocket to keep the torque/top end speed the same?? This has been keeping me up at night, lol, thanks for help in advance

If you ride a 400ex in tight trails a 14t sprocket works great with stock tires. If you get 22" tires, you will want to get a bigger sprocket in the back. I added one with 5 more teeth.

I think you will gain some top speed actually. You have to shave off some metal from the stock case saver when you put the 14 tooth on.

How much larger in diameter is the +5 rear sprocket? I am planning on getting a Pro-Tect swingarm skid plate and I'm wondering if there will be a problem with clearance.
