What will be everyones primary use of this quad?

Mine will most likely be mostly trails at first, to get used to it of course and to break it in good and well. After the spring and beginning of summer I might get into my first season of gncc. No moto though, I dont like mx.

Beating YFZ 450's J/K, actually I am still trying to decide which 450 to get (after the Raptor goes bye-bye.):eek2:

My only use would be for slinging sand at the Oregon dunes!

I'm gonna be using it for Dist. 17 harescrambles, maybe even a couple gncc's depending on the location of the race.

I'll probably buy a couple for rental machines, which get used most for dunes and the occasional trail rides.

First I'm gonna half *** tie it down at the dealer so it rolls off the trailer on the way home. Then I"m gonna run it into the first tree I see. Then i'm gonna let all the kids in the neighborhood take it for a ride and beat the chit out of it. Then i'm gonna put new tires on it and do burnouts till the police show up. Then i'm gonna attempt to jump my garage using only a milk crate and a 4x5 sheet of paneling that I took off my wall in the basement..:blah: When I get all this accomplished i'm gonna sell it and buy a blaster and do it all again...:macho

I thought the 400 was perdy damn good on the trails. Just set the power down (what it had at least, which is still pretty good but getting out dated) where you want it and let it do the rest. I've heard that the yfz isnt to rad for the trails, or the dunes. Sure performance wise but when dirtwheels did the test on it comparing it to the dirtbike, the dirtbike got a faster time on the xc course than the yfz, and vice versa on the mx course. But I dont care, it will be good on the trails no doubt anyway, and I doubt ill be getting to race any so im perfectly fine with it.

Where did you hear that from?? I've taken my YFZ to the dunes a couple times now and nobody but Banshee's keep up with me on the hill climbs and everywhere else it is awesome. I wouldn't exactly call it a trail bike though. The 400EX is definitely a good choice for that. The YFZ will destroy just about any four stroke out there in the dunes, at least that has been my experience.

For those of you who are going to do a lot of duning, the Yamaha is probably the best choice. I can't say for sure yet, because 1, there aren't dunes in Iowa...and 2, only a select few have actually ridden the new Honda. The only reason I say that they would probably be better in the sand is because they run a lot more like a two-stroke than the honda (the yamaha rev's higher).

For the trail, I think either would be a good choice, but again the Yamaha would get the edge because of the electric start. For me it doesn't matter, but I know a lot of riders like the convenience of electric start.

And for motocross, either would be a good choice again. The Yamaha's are awesome and I am praying that Honda can match the power and performance (who would have ever thought Yamaha could compete with the handling and performance of a Honda?). I am buying a Honda, but only because I am hoping that most of my 400ex parts will fit on to it. Otherwise I would be waiting to see a shootout or would have already bought a Yamaha...There are Yamaha's just sitting on showroom floors around here (some for a couple of months) because everyone is waiting to see the Honda, and for those of you who are buying the Yamaha...use the Honda's price as a bargaining point...Don't think you have to go in a pay retail for all new machines...I would bet that any dealer would sell the Yamaha for the price of the Honda if you asked...otherwise, walk out...Good Luck!

As for the electric start, people have been plagued by yamahas ****ty job of a charger and battery. It aint worth it either way, ill take that decompression staged kick start thank you :p :o

The minority have had the starter problems. I know five different owners of YFZ's (including myself) and not one of us has had the starter problem. I'm not defending the YFZ, just FYI. I think people are blowing it up into a bigger deal than it is.

I agree, I have have never had a starting problem with my YFZ450 and I haven't come across anyone with a YFZ450 yet that has has a starting problem. The main reason people are having starting problems with there YFZ450s is because they are not jettng correctly for the cam mod, K&N air filter and aftermarket pipes that they are installing. Unlike the Honda TRX450, the Yamaha comes with the FCR carb that, although can be tricky to jet, when jetted properly halls a@#.

My YFZ hasn't had any starting problems yet, and I've ridden it at least 6 times. To me, I just couldn't wait any longer and had to get the Yamaha. The Honda may be better, it may not be, only time will tell, for now, I'll stick with my YFZ and 400EX. Who knows, I might just get a TRX450r also:blah:
