Anyone know approximate Horsepower ratings for the CR125R and YZ125 bikes?

Thanks,

James

Depends on the year. Most later models are right around 30-34, with the newest ones being closer to 34..

I was leaning more toward the Yammi anyway. Was just looking for something to go fast around the farm.

Thanks

the yz definatley has more kick. The honda is a good bike but the engine isnt as powerful as they want it to be. yeah their horespower is inbetween 30 and 35

Actually, it doesn't. I have enough seat time on YZ125s ( 5 friends have them, and I have owned my CR125 for 2 years) to know the differences. The CR125 is better suited for advanced riders because it doesn't make as much low end power or torque as the YZ. However, the CR makes more peak HP, and it revs longer. The CR actually hits harder than the YZ because of the lack of low end and the explosive top end. The YZ is more flat feeling, almost 250 or 4 stroke like, but not quite. So if you are a lazy rider who likes to putt around or saty below the powerband, the YZ is a better bike. If you like to ride agressively at and above the powerband, the CR is a better bike. Not to mention the ergonomics on the CR is much better, it looks better (:o ) and the suspension and handling is better.

I personally don't like the CR 125's. It has NO low end and is harder to ride than the other 125's. I'm not brand loyal at all, I just think that the CR 125's and 250's are not good bikes.

Also, the 125 2-strokes do not put out 34 HP... it's more along the lines of 28-30 HP. The 250F puts out about 32-33 HP and has the highest HP of all the 125 class bikes (not sure about the other 250 4-strokes since they haven't really been out long). Unless it's modded, you won't see a 125 w/ more than 30 HP.

Try again. The 250F actually has LESS peak HP than any 125 2 stroke. And check some dyno sheets, such as the ones on fmfracing.com. They are right around 33HP for most 125s, with the CR actually having the most peak, and the 250F being right around 31HP at the peak.

stock, a yz125 has more peak hp than a cr125. What you said about the yz going flat on top and the cr125 having the most power is wrong (what i hear from dirtrider 125 shootout). But ill believe u since you have riddin both of them. Im not trying to start anything, but thats just from the tests done in certain magazines i read. And once again im just stating what i heard. I understand people support the bike they ride :) .

The dilemma I'm in is that I don't know if I should choose a 2 stroke 125cc or a four stroke 250+cc bike. I don't ride competively and it's been a while since I've ridden a bike. I don't do any tight trail riding mostly open areas. But I do like to haul *****. It doesn't help that I'm a 200 pounder which is why I'm asking for any advise on your experiences.

BTW, thanks for all the responses. Greatly appreciated.

James

I think I would lean towards the thumper because it is more versatile if you are not racing. The 250 four strokes are sweet bikes now days anyway.

At your size and expierience level, you should be very happy with any of the new 250Fs (RM/KX,YZ, or the new CRF).

Thanks for all the responses. I just got ahold of a friend of a friend and he's got a YZ250F. I'll test ride that and see how it feels. Then, I'll try and find someone with cr, yz125 and ride that.
Then it'll be decision time.

Thanks again,

James
