i am getting a new pipe for my R, i ride fast trails, dunes, mx, and the occassional drag, my question is, i am having my motor ported for strong power across the rpm range so what pipe would i be better off with?

I went with the 5 cause it is more of a mid range pipe. It still has plenty of the power down low for tight woods riding. Sounds like your porting it for midrange so that would be a good combo (ask the guy doing the port work what he recommends....)

I have the trx5 center mount and it really works well for what you're thinking of.

I'd go with the trx5. If you ride woods you may not want the TRX5 centermount (since you have to get rid of your airbox) but it does make more power.
I guess the basic question is do you want low end and midrange power or mid-high power. For dunes and drag you want topend. For slow woods and MX you want bottom end but the TRX5 doesnt' sacrifice much bottom from what i hear.
What type of porting are you doing? Mild midrange?

actually no, it is a local guy that has had his stock bore R's with his extreme midrange dynoed and it had power everywhere and peaked at 62 HP on gas, he also has amazing blasters that make 47 HP on gas on the stock bore, he does amazing work and it is only $175

62hp on a 250-265cc with a fat powerband????
I'm sure the Pro racers would like to meet him.

I have done some research on the same exact situation that your in the event that an R was plopped into my lap (it still hasn't happened). I ride basically all the same things that you do, so I had the same considerations. What I found is that the TRX5R puts out the same amount of low end power as the LRD system Bill Ballance depends on to win GNCC races, and it puts out 3 more hp. than the LRD on top end. The reason why they aren't probably used by Bill himself is that Eddie Sanders doesn't really have the name behind him that LRD does. Anyway... The TRX6R is a low end pipe as you know, and I hear that it puts out strong smooth power, and still has an eye opening top end to boot. I have spoken to an ESR salesman, and he reccomended the 6. He said it makes great for trails, drags, steep technical hills and is great in sand. Its up to you and their the same price... but I would personally go with the trx6r.
