View Full Version : K&N crankcase breather filter?

Anyone stuck one on the end of there crankcase breather tube and just got rid of that plastic bottle?

This is on a 400ex.

ive thought about doings this as well, figure its no diffrent then for like a car engine. all it is is a breather...... that and that way you can plug that intake tube that looks like it could leak at any moment:huh

the breather is there for an environmental reason. It also aids in the combustion of the fuel i am told. if you run the blowby back through the cylinder it helps keep the fuel from pre igniting. I cant remember where i heard this, ill see if i can find it

The 1987 honda 250x's didn't have the breathers going into the engine. They were connected to the frame. In cold weather, the breather could freeze up (water vapor condensing when hitting the frame). This would blow out the camshaft seals. Mine did this many times! I ended up leaving it unconnected in cold weather. No problems after that!
