Hey gang,

I just got finished putting my 416 back together and had a question about cam timing.

I noticed that when I put the cam sprocket on, the 2 lines did not line up "exactly" across the head. They were real close but exact...no.

I did have it as close as humanly possible to TDC on the flywheel and I did not drop the cam chain.

It was probably like 1-2mm low on the left and 1-2mm high on the right side. If I tried to shift one tooth left or right on the sprocket, I would be way off on timing.

Am I close enough for all practical purposes???

you don't have a timing advance key do you?

OK, I think I may know what I did.

I looked at the manual, and it shows the 2 horizontal marks and then a 3rd one pointing up at 12:00 o'clock. I think I may have put it in upside down. Would that make a difference?? Those lines aren't 180 degrees apart from each other??

If not, then I'm not going to take it back apart.

You should be OK, mine was the same way.
Just turn the crank one more revolution and you wil have the vertical mark on top, you dont need to take it apart.

It's just fine the way it is.

Either your total cylinder height is a little shorter than original, or your timing chain has stretched some. Neither one enough to worry about (at all). Now go ride it would ya!
