Not sure if this has been already discussed in any detail, but has anyone noticed the similarities between the R and EX's dimensions and suspension #'s? Very interesting, I mean, I have always thought the 400EX's #'s were all-around pretty spot-on, but was there no need for improvements for a new race-bred Honda quad? Hmmm. Take a look... (right from the Honda website)

450R:
Front Susp: 8.4"
Rear Susp: 9.0"
Length 72.6 inches
Width 46.3 inches
Height 43.6 inches
Wheelbase 49.2 inches
Seat Height 32.6 inches
Ground Clearance 4.2 inches
Dry Weight 350.0 pounds
Fuel Capacity 3.2 gallons
Front Brakes Dual hydraulic 174.0mm discs twin-piston calipers
Rear Brake Single hydraulic 190.0mm disc single-piston caliper
42mm carb WITH TPS (Throttle Position Sensor)

400EX:
Front Susp: 8.2"
Rear Susp: 9.1"
Length 72.2 inches
Width 45.3 inches
Height 43.7 inches
Wheelbase 48.4 inches
Seat Height 31.9 inches
Ground Clearance 4.3 inches
Dry Weight 375.0 pounds
Fuel Capacity 2.6 gallons
Front Brakes Dual hydraulic 174mm discs
Rear Brake Single 220mm disc
38mm Carb

...Note the Honda website lists the 450R as having a 42mm carb WITH TPS (Throttle Position Sensor). Was that always listed there....?

True, but a whole redesigned engine and piggy back front shocks kick a**, not to mention the kick start:rolleyes:

Answering my own question...

According to the Honda interview in the Dec ATV Sport mag (that I got in the mail today), the 450R frame was custom-built for this engine, and is not a re-tooled 400EX or 250R frame with the 450 engine dropped into it.

Even though the specs on it are so close to 400EX frame dimensions...

That is very interesting. That also answers the question about the seat height. The seat height on the new 450 is higher than the 400EX, but it is an inch wider. Can't wait to swing a leg over one.

sounds like ites pretty much a 400ex with a kick *** motor, better looks and rezzies...which is a good thing imo:D

no, the whole frame is redesigned to be like the 250r and 400ex.
