both will most likely be way too fast for him and way to big, i would look into somehting like a KX65

I personally would not start a 10 year old out on an 80cc or 100cc 2 stroke. Look into real beginner bikes like XR80/100s. There is alot to learn when switching from a bike to quad, and those 80s have some balls.

Think from the perspective that he has no expierience on a bike. Bikes and quads are extremely different. The XRs are made to teach kids to ride safely. You don't want a 10 year old with no expierience on an 80 or 100 2 stroke. That is asking for trouble.

I bought my son a PW 80 when he was 9. Its a low grade 2-stroke and it fit him well for 2.5 years. My budddies son had an XR 80 and it would walk all over the PW 80, yet it was just as easy to ride/handle for my son. Soooo from my sons experience I would recomend the XR 80 for a 11 yr. old starter. Youth bikes tend to hold there value pretty good unless you pay way to much, so I wouldnt worry about resell to much. Just my opinion.

Theres a BIG difference from a straight pipe Elsinore and a new style CR80. At least 10HP difference, not to mention the monstrous hit on top.

i learned as a 11 year old on a cr80 and i about killed myself...

a cr80 does NOT have a power valve on it... there is no low and when when u hit power band it takes off... it pulls hard... it lifted the front wheels off the ground with my dad whos 6'1 300lbs...

i rec a xr80 or 100 not a cr80...

the cr80 is just as fast as a stock 400ex pretty much and a kx100 is dead even with a 400ex just to give u a idea... but they dont' have the low end on them...

hey i been around bikes my whole life, personally a yz80 or rm80 would be your best bet. ive seen plenty of starters on 80s. thats if your son wants to race and jump and what not. for trail id go for an xr80. if you really want to have some minibike fun get a tricked out xr50. fully trick one will run about 3500 , but u can talk to the guys at www.bbrmotorsports.com or www.fast50s.com, theyll build it to ur specs and ship it.
