For the 400ex to 300ex carb conversion you need a 350x airboot correct?

I don't know whether you actually NEED it but I've heard that it does help out by increasing airflow into the carb. I THINK you can use the 350X airboot on a 300EX with stock carb too. Does anyone know differently?

You need the airboot for the 400ex carb conversion. You can also use the 350x airboot with a stock carb.

We just installed a 400ex carb on my buddies 300ex. We used the stock 300ex air boot. Works perfect. I will try to get a pic up asap. The only thing we had to do was chamfer the 400ex carb.
I mean take off the sharp lip on the back side of the carb. Then we dipped the stock air boot in boiling water to get it to streach. And presto, it went right on. Looks stock too. We can't wait to get it broke in to open it up. throtle responce is 100% better than stock. He has major motor mods done too, so that probly helps too.

#1 you cant get the 350x to fit?

#2 you cant get the stock to fit?

#3 you did ge the stock to fit but couldn't get gas in it?

Please explain better and I'll help out as much as possible..

I taped it up so no dirt could get into the carb. <-- and when gas went into the the airtboot from doing wheelies and it stretched perfectly over the 400ex carb. <--- So how are you guyz getting it fit on the carb.<-----

there you go hey i even pointed out the periods for you

Thanks, much easier to read...:)

I just got a pan of boiling water on the stove and stuck the air boot in it and let it set for a couple minutes.

While it was soaking I use a dremel to take off the sharp lip off the back of the carb. This helped the boot slide up on the carb flange. With the boot nice and soft it easily streached over the carb flange. Clamp it down and let it cool. Took it off a little later and it had streached enough to come on and off.

The intake track on the 300ex carb is only about 1/16 of an inch smaller than the 400ex so the stock air boot don't realy have to streach that much. It's mainly the real sharp edge on the 400ex carb that stops the boot from slidding on...

I hope this helps....

Yea really helps out alot i thought for a while Da** waisted money for something that doesnt fit so thanks for the help. Also do you really think my friends valves would'nt be fried with that little of oil:confused:

You should be fine on the valves. You would notice if they were burnt. It wouldn't idle and usualy they backfire or have some weir sound out of the exhaust, If you want to be sure baout it, you could do a compression check. It won't tell you is exactly wrong but if it is low you will know to take it apart.

Best of luck with the 300ex..
