Just sold the Raptor. Time to move onto my new toy--a 100% original 1987 LT250R. I've always been a Suzuki guy and I'm returning to my roots. I'll post pics as soon as I pick the bike up (it's sitting in my uncle's heated garage right now).

Well guess you better change the avatar and your sig:) I dont know if your moving up or moving down LOL Hope you like it. I dont know much about the zukis but I think that is the 2stroke model right??

Yes, it is the 2-stroke.

The only LT250R that I've seen in person up close was a hunk of crap and needed a rebuild, but I've heard they are great bikes.

you can be the peacemaker without a yamaha or honda. good luck on the racer.

A used quad is only as good as the previous owner. Fortunately for me this bike is nearly showroom floor clean. First thing I'm doing is tearing the plastic and gas tank off and I'm going to gusset the frame. After that it's motor time!

Guy your gonna have to change your name to Guy250r, or Guylt250r so people will know you have a Quadracer instead of a honda 250r.

How about GuyLTR

Guylt250r

I still think you should have gotten a 250r.

Since you already had a suzuki.

What was wrong with the raptor or why did you wanna sell it???? I guess I didn't know you didn't like it or wanted something differant.

Nausty, it's not that I didn't like the Raptor. I really liked the bike and mine treated me very well but reading horror story after horror story of transmissions failing got me spooked so I figured I'd sell my bike while it's in excellent condition and get rid of that potentiality.

Beerock, trust me, if I could've found a 250R in as good of condition as the LT I'm picking up for $2000 I would've snatched it up. I'm not into driving acrossed the state and of the 5 or 6 250R's for sale around me the cheapest was $3000 and it was in very poor condition (i.e., seat was torn, plastic was cracked, slop in the steering, smoked excessively but the guy told me that it was because he runs 24:1 for safety:rolleyes: but it did have new axle bearings). The rest were $4500+ race bikes and that's more money than I want to spend on a 15 year old quad.

Guy,

congrats on the new ride! I cant wait to see pics of this thing. I've taken my friends LT250 for a ride and she sure does scream. I love how they feel....very light. It has me strongly modivated to look for a 250 2-stroke (LT or R).

I've got a few tech questions. Could you post a pic of the stock exhaust system. Also, what size carb does it have? Any close up's would be nice (of the whole bike). My friend has a manual for his 86 and it has all kinds of suggestions on what to change as Suzuki changed the LT through the years. (IE...going from a 32mm carb to the 34mm....cutting about 1" out of the stock exhaust .....etc)

Eric, I'll get some close ups of it as soon as I get it. I've got to do the paperwork on my Raptor Friday morning and I'll most likely be picking the Racer up sometime this weekend. As soon as I do I'll grab my brother's digital camera and take pics of it in it's 100% stock form cause it won't stay like that very long:D What I can tell you is that the '87 LT's used a 34mm Mikuni CV carb and I believe they retained that carb all the way to '92 (I don't know what size the '85/'86 bike had). I can tell you 3 things about the stock exhaust system; big, extremely heavy and saps a lot of power. As soon as I get this bike I'm stripping it down and am going to gusset the frame. Secondly, I'm going to run a compression test and see how well the 15 year old bore is still packing air. From there it will be a pipe which I'm still undecided on (guys at the Connection say Paul Turner Midrange, others at MacDizzy say LRD adjustable and a true LT guru tells me his first hand experience on the dyno showed him the FMF Fatty/Powercore made the most HP and broadest torque curve) and a filter. Then I'll switch to a 36mm Keihin Airstryker and probably do a top end rebuild.

Tommy, Jeremy's banned from anything that resembles a wheelie on my bike the rest of his natural life:D

GEEZ! Things seem to be getting a little harsh! Take it easy there MeanieLT250R!

Eric, what close ups in particular do you want? I want to make sure to get all the pics before I tear the bike down. I want to get a 'before and after' folder on my PC anyway so it would be nice to get these pics for myself. Just tell me which ones you want to see up close and I'll get them for ya!

Hey guy I think you should do a top end rebuild while you got the mofo apart. Get a new piston, rings, etc, and get the cylinder wall honed and you are set. I saw the quadracer Eric is talkin about during the top end rebuild and it was super easy. Nothin like when Eric and I did my 420ex. There is nothin to a 2 stroke top end rebuild. And it won't cost you that much.

good luck,

mike

yeah 2-strokes are like cake... i can do them but not a 4-stroke all the vavles and cams and stuff got me to scared... u can do a 2-stroke in 30 mins...

Guy400

Mike, if the compression test comes out lower than 155psi I'll definitely be doing a top end immediately while I got the gas tank off the bike. It'll be interesting to see what kind of compression is really still left on the original bore.

I guess you never know. You may get lucky and be able to run it for sometime before a rebuild. Then after you are used to it again you will most likely wanna get a bigger piston and some better reeds for the rebuild.

Also if I were you I'd get the FMF Fatty exhaust pipe. I think that is the best 2 stroke pipe out there. It also has a kewl name. Its kinda like what the FMF powerbong is to 4 stokes.:D

Yeah, I had the Gold Series Fatty on my old '92 LT and I was really happy with it. More than likely I'll end up going with that again.

So with the extra money from the raptor your gonna do a lil work to the lt?

Good luck pulling your jug apart. My friends was a pain in the #$@ to pull apart from the case. Those damn OEM gaskets really seal up over the years.

Eric Thanks for the words of encouragement!!:) It's nothing a sledge hammer and pry bar can't handle!

LOL....thats almost what we used to get the jug off. We had to use a screwdriver and a rubber mallet to pry it off.

I see the writing on the wall.

#1) man sells high dollar high tech quad without any major loss.

#2) man replaces high dollar quad with low dollar quad

#3) Man justifies purchase of new Z400 to wife since his OLD quad is a restored "show piece" & shouldn't be ridden every day. :o

slick move ace..........are all of the younger members paying attention here? THESE are the things they aren't going to teach you in school.
