I have completely made up my mind on a 416 kit but I am not sure which one. I was thinkin powroll. I also want to put a cam in it. What cam is best and should I harden my rockers? WHat gas do I have to run in it?

well so far all i did was a 11:1 piston bored cylinder and a little port and polish. Now mind you a local engine builder built my 416 for uder $420 and hes been building nascar engines for over 15 years! I bought a hotcam stage two cam for it so im eager to ride it with that mod. With the mods above other than the hotcam i have pulled many holeshots over quads with bike motors. cant beat the 416 for the price.:D

if i was gonna do it over id save up and get a duncan 440 national kit without the carb

I am very happy with my 416 kit. I have a Ross piston and a Web-Cam with a custom grind. It's called a 1.5 a cam with lots of low end for woods but good top end as well.

If I were to choose any other cams i personally would do an HRC or a TC cam. I have ridden both and like them. Have not ridden a hotcams so can't say.

Hardened rockers and H.D. springs would indisputably makes for a more durable engine in the long run but you pay the price up front.

It all depends on how much you can spend and what you seek in the end. Good luck!

Do you wanna spend $300 or $2,000???

I like mine a lot. ProFab does great work at a reasonable price, and the turn-around is much quicker than the big-name guys. I was pulling my brother's piped and jetted Raptor and his buddy's piped and jetted Z400 up Comp Hill at Dumont all day!

Rico is right how much do you want to spend you can buy the parts and do the work yourself and save a lot of money plus it is fun to do :)
I really like my 416 no problem beating most bikes in a drag the only ones I have trouble with are the highly moded banshee.

I don't think I will ever run a 440 kit more torque but revs to slow that is just my preference.

I agree sparks builds good motors. Though I have raced against alot of sparks 416 motors and have found them to be no faster than the 416's I build here.

ya dude...those yzf's aint all that...a built 400ex SMOKES them in the woods and has no problems keeping up with them in drags...but if its a pretty built one...the 400 will still own it in the woods but the yzf will pull out a bit on the drag...so yzf is pretty much a moto bike

i jsut got mine done and have rode it maybe 5 times at about 2 hrs each. i love it. i got the stuff from C&D, JE piston, hotcam II and the gaskets. i had a buddy of mine do the port job and i have added an extra cooler. i am taking it to dumont on halloween and well see how it does against others. i can say i beat a 99 cr250 and a 00 honda shadow 1100 off the line to about 3rd gear then they caught up. both are good riders and have ridden for a while, so there is no dispute on ability. if you want a bit more power and it still be relyable.

What all parts are needed to go to a 416. 11:1 piston, cam, bored cylinder, should go with harden rockers and HD springs? What else? Thanks guys...just talking about this makes a dixie wreck....:eek2: haha jp!

Rode with a local racer for 4 hours on a course like wisp. His ride, a piped yzf. my ride, as below. In the woods it's not hard to dog em and at the opportune time, pick your line and pass. Ya gain some ground and then guess what.....the trail opens....

Now your in the field, well that's another story.

The new 450's have superior engine technology. Basically 70's vs 90's But if your quads built up, you won't be ashamed. Actually there is quite a sense of pride when ya whack him...lol

The stock suspension on the yzf will beat you silly on fast rocky course. Once suspension is addressed however, the quad is so quick and I think we all know the outcome.

lol, compliment your buds yzf then invite him to some tight rocky trails and apologize for running into his arse...lol

It depends on what cam you go with. Rockers and springs are usually not necessary with a drop in cam like a Hotcam. I haven't had any problems. Get the port and polish done too if possible.

Yep we were there on saturday. my 400 was the all silver with chrome and blue flames and I had black and white LBZ gear on.. Not sure what that raptor had done to it but it was fast to keep up with the alky banshees..

I am also enjoying hearing this about how slow the YFZ is, those of you tht are saying how slow it is either have not rode one or not rode with one, it is a truly fast quad, now the 416's when done right with cam, carb, and all the porting are quick but with a pipe, K&N, and jetting I will take you anyday dragging or duning, I can also ride mine pretty good in trails when I drop the front sprocket to a 13T 14 is stock.

I also have a Z400 which is faster than a 400ex and I can pull the stickers off it when I pass it on the YFZ

As much as I hate to admit it (I'm a red rider through and through) I will have to go with you on this one. Without trying to sound boastful, my 416 has handled all 4??EX's except for a few 440's that I have lined up against in the sand so I think mine has a potent combination. The only YFZ's that I can run against are absolutely stock (baffle and air lid intact). Ones like described above will take me by about 3-4 bike lengths over 300ft. The Yami 450 (with a rider that knows what he or she is doing) is a fast bike, period, there is no denying it.
