Has anyone seen a 400 ex on nitrous? Im almost positive im going to order the kit tonite for it. Its a 35-70 kit shot, but we are going to turn it down to a 15. It is going to have an arm system and purge valves. It going to come on at WOT. Should there be any problems with my setup?

I have never been around it on a quad but have been around some big blocks with a lot of juice to them....All I have to say is that is going to cause you motor to get very hot. Jetting is going to bet very important...if it gets lean it will melt your upper end and valves

Are you spraying directly into the cylinder, or into the carburetor?

There is more to it than bolting on the nitrous. You also must adjust your ignition timing and jetting will be CRUCIAL in wether you make it more than 5 minutes! Also, I would NOT attempt this if running the stock connecting rod. The stock rod is fine for stock and mild engines, but it will not hold up to the cylinder pressure you will be experiencing with the gas.

Sorry for the bad news but you may save $1K in motor damage and nitrous cost plus install.

Im going to put it in the carburator. My dads good friend is a long time nitrous installer. He wants to do it as a project on my quad:p 4 free!!!! He said if anything blows up or cant handle it he will tear it apart and fix it and run it again. This is more of a test, once we get it dialed in, im sure some of you will want this set-up:blah:

I think you can run nitrous with the stock connecting rod, as long as you don't get carried away and try a 50HP boost. You should be able to get 15hp easy. However, I'd be real careful if you're also running a high compression piston. I'd recomend stock compression, or high compression and timing retarded.

I had nitrous on a little 250X, and when I got it dialed in, it was quite a power boost! It lifted the front wheels in 3rd gear.

The following information is just my experience, I take NO responsibility for engine damage.

I have found that you can generally jet a little leaner on quads. With the smaller bottles and the absence of a bottle heater, the bottle pressure drops off pretty quickly, but the fuel is still fed at the same amount. Basically, the longer you hold it open, the richer your mixture becomes.

nitrous is a awesome power booster it is a no no to run with high compression piston. it will crack the cases (seen it first hand) I started with a 10hp shot am shooting 15 now. many of my buddys run 20 on 250rs and they all recomend not going above 20-25 on a single cylinder. my brother in law is shooting 30hp in his raptor 15 in each side. also mines installed in front of the carb. seems to give better gains.

just my 2 cents. :D

how is he shooting on each side on a raptor when raptors only have 1 cylinder

Are you planning on running a wet system or dry?

I still stand by my first post. I have heard of and seen firsthand 426's and 440's at tracks running the stock rod and it broke. Combine that with this 15 extra hp he will shoot to it?? 400ex rider has 440 kit is his sig, even if it's mildly built he should have 32-35 hp. The stock rod cant handle 50 hp for very long. Luckily he will prolly blow a head gasket before any real damage occurs.

Please give us a long term update after a few months (days?) of use. Good luck--Mike

good luck i love my nx system. i noticed in your mods list your running a 14 sprocket you will probley want your stock 15 or maybe a 16 with the nitrous. i switched back to the 15 and am going to try a 16 next weekend.

You always hear people talking about the HP gains with nitrous but there is also a tremendous torque gain, so I agree with 1fast400ex, try pulling a tooth or two taller CS gear if you are going to be spraying a lot.
