I did this stock pipe mod and i actually felt more low end to mid power increase and do really half to rejet for this modification here is the link http://home.earthlink.net/~gellett/silencer.htm
Its diffenely worth the time do this!
O and i have a 142 dyno jet in their and i have a k&n airfliter with air box lid on

im glad it worked for ya.
its always cool to see people get their hands dirty, and make their own free mod, and it actually works. just curious, have you ground down the welds on the headers? u should do that also

Can take the choke out of the carb as well if you want to get serious.

Do you think i would need to re jet for that pipe mod?

removing the choke doesnt do that much, not enough to see a difference, only like .01 of a hp.ive almost done it my self but talked to my engine builder and said that it doesnt even do anything noticable, this guy knows what hes talking about too. hes multi-national tt rider. thanks

i did this when i had my stock pipe. it made a little more low to midrange grunt. i was using a 150 main in the summer and a 152 main in the winter with a modded airbox lid.

My friend and I are going to do this mod to his pipe tomorrow, and right now his 400 has a 146dj. I can't seem to find the 150, so should the 146 be fine? All his 400 has for mods is a k&n Filter.
I don't get what is actually going on. What are you doing to the pipe?

i did rejet for this mod. however, i didn't use dynojets, i used keihins. i used a 152 in the winter months with a very few small holes in the airbox lid. in the warmer months, i used a 150 keihin main. i am not positive how the dynojets compare to keihin jets.

I do believe that the dynojets are a little smaller, so I think we will go with a 155, and if its to rich, just remove the airbox lid. BTW, how much louder was it with this mod??

what exactley does it do when you grind the welds down? like how does it help performance?

It flows more cfm than a restrictive pipe with welds blocking airflow.

thanks for this idea cwad_boyEX. We just got done doing this to my stock pipe, and stuck it on my drag mower. IDK if it made any more power for the mower, but damn it sounds better :D

o ok maybe im not understanding where the welds are, are they on the inside of the header?

I dunno, I'm assuming that the stock welds are a lil slopy. Therefore, if any weld is present in the header, it will restrict flow. A smooth cylindrical pipe will flow better one with machining resue on the inside, you dig?

If you really want performance and can stand the noise, leave the whole inner chamber out and replace with 2" screen tube from
Vance & hines or White Bros, etc.
The tube slips over the inner pipe and will run at a slight angle to the endcap. open the endcap up to fit and weld tobe to it !
Most HP pipe companies have the tube as a replacement part!
Performs as good as any slip on without the price!
