I know that when installing a 440 kit you re-sleeve the cylinder. My questions is does the head itself have to be bored to accept the larger sleeve (once the stock sleeve has been removed). I've been away for a while and boy this site has changed.

No, the sleeve is installed into the cylinder, not the head. A head gasket with a 4mm larger cylinder hole is needed though. No biggie, everyone has them.

I took my head in when I had mine done. He ported and polished it but I do believe he did check it to make sure everything was going to work ok.

Thanks for the response. I used the wrong word in the second half of my question. Instead of using the term "head" I should have used "cylinder body" or "jug". I am assumeing that the reason for re-sleeving the cylinder is because the piston of a "440 kit" has a greater diameter than the stock sleeve can be bored to, if this is the case than I can only assume that the "jug" in stock form wouldn't have a large enough diameter to accept the new larger sleeve. please correct me if I'm wrong.

That's correct.
