hey,
is anyone else doing this thing for school??? for our us history class, we are doing this competition against schools across the nation. basically, we get "$100,000" to do whatever we want with in the stock market. the catch is, its not real money...but you use real stocks, real markets, real time...good learning experience....just wondering if anyone else is doing this???

We did that in 8th grade. We had like 50,000$ I think. I ended up cheating and making close to 70,000$ in profits (we had to use the money from that in our next unit).

I did that in 9th grade. I put money into Motorola and Hitachi and wound up making a nice profit.

I play with my 401k.......try Fidelity Low Price Stock ..emblem is FLPSX.....http://cgi.money.cnn.com/mstar/FundLookup?symbol=FLPSX&report=2.....has good returns over the years...they invest in Outback restaurants,Applebees andCVS pharmacy's to name a few...I believe it's a mutual fund so they break up the investment in different things...check it out I've made money with it..

Hey BigRed400, question...did you invest in Income, Growth, or Aggressive in your 401k. I am starting to invest in my 401k next week. I am going to talk to a financial planner on Wednesday, but I would like some insight on actual 401k investors!

thanks man!

It all depends on how long you plan on keeping the money invested... Typically, the longer you plan to keep your money invested in your 401k, the more agressive of investments you should choose. With these agressive investments, you need to be prepared to see large fluctuations and stick with them if you want to make money in the long run.

Or, if you are unsure about what you would like to do with your money and want your investment to be secure, the shorter term/less aggressive investments may suit you better.

I was in the same boat a few months ago and ended up putting the majority of my 401k money in long-term, aggressive investments. Plus, my dad is an investment banker, so it's pretty easy to get advice on this subject! :D I did put a portion of the money in a short-term investment just in case though...

Do the companies you guys work for match your 401k investments? Just wondering...

If you have any other questions, let me know...If I can't give you an answer, I'll ask my dad and see what he says.

how is that cheating?I kinda understand what your saying but it wouldnt matter if your other classmates all went out and bought the stock couse its play money and you dont actually buy stock so it wouldnt make the actual value of it go up
