Are there any special tools required to split the case on a 400ex? Any surprises/difficulties?

Thanks for the responses......

I was wondering the exact same thing.
I'm thinkin about changin my rod and shavin my flywheel.
I have talked to a few people about splitting the cases.
Some say it's difficult; others just say to take your time and you'll be fine.
I just want some more opinions.
Thanks.

Have lots of things to pry the cases apart, and time!;)

With the cylinder and cylinder head already removed, it took me about 90 minutes to split the cases and inspect the transmission. This was without a repair manual.

The bad news is I'm going to replace 3rd and 5th gears along with the shifting collars, and possibly one shifting fork.

Now the big question: 416 w/12.5:1 comp. , 440 stroker w/11.5-12.5:1 comp.:macho , or a 463 w/12.5:1 comp.
