i finally got all my parts for the 416 and started the build up. put the piston, what i thought was the right way(symbol on top facing the intake). got the piston, rings, and jug slid down and tourqued. i was ready to put the head on when i looked and noticed the intake valves are bigger than the exhaust, reffering back to the piston, i noticed it was bas akwards... so i had to take the jug off and turn the piston around:( ohh well, you live you learn, i did a quick search and learned if there is an arrow it points to the front of the eng, if its IN it goes intake side. the powder coated case covers look great the polished small covers. ill take a pic when it is finished...

yeah, the arrow goes to the exhaust ports. i assume you have a je or wiseco piston because my ross didn't even have an arrow so i used the stock piston as a reference. hey, now you know what you need to do if you ever come upon this again.

what would happen if you ran it with the piston backwards

The valves would collide with the piston.

this after market piston has a slight dome to it. the valve indents in the top are diffent sizes according to which valves need a bigger space to open, hence the collide with the piston as said above. the intake valves are bigger than the exhaust valves.
