In the lt250r's, i know like in 87 or whatever they added a pv. I want one of these bikes (despite what some say) but i am only finding like the 86's cheap, and then like the others jack up cause they are all modded...so does the pv make that big of a difference. Then i was thinking if i could just get the 86 cheap( which i can) and get like a 88+ motor and put in in the 86 chassis, the dealer said that you would have to modify the frame though...so any one know to what extent you will have to modify the frame, and how much of a diff. is there bottom -top end with and with out the power valve???

yes, i had an 86 and my friend has an 89. Totally diffrant quads. The Powervalve creates more back pressure at lower RPMS to recreate better low end then opens up flow for top end at higher RPMs. That and theres other little things, like his rear shock was compression adjustable...... mine wasnt. Frame was stronger in his... stuff like that. I wouldnt buy another LT unless it had the PV

1987's had the strongest motor and the 1992's had the best frame and rear shock set-up. If I were you and looking for a LT I'd hold out for a '91-'92 if you could. The benefits in the rear suspension and stronger frame make up for the 1hp difference the 1987 motor makes.

another thing to note- the non powervalve motors are 5 speeds and the powervalve motors are 6 speeds
