Front Sprocket question

i just replaced my front sprocket with a 14 and i was wondering if anything holds the sprockett in place or is it supposed to slide back and forth

Did you put he plate on and then the 2 bolts that go thought the plate and into the sproket? It will move some.

i didnt line up correctly with the holes on the sprocket.

Only mounts one way and missalignment with the splines is purposefull as you noticed. Play is neccessary and normal.
