My GPS unit said that mine will do 56.2. That was on a long straight stretch slightly uphill. (only up about 2 foot for a 1/2 mile straight) I didn't check it the other way but I'm guesing that I would only gain a maximum of about 1mph maybe 1 1/2 mph. Mine is highly modified, but not for higher speed. Mainly just accesories that I added. Tho only 2 mods. that would increase the speed on it would be the FMF exhaust, and 25" tires instead of 24".

:eek2: I'm not sure how fast a Rancher goes but I will tell you this....it's pretty da** good in the mud for a smaller machine. A friend of mine has an 02 Rancher 4x4 Stock!!!....let my brother borrow it so he could go riding with myself and bro in law last March in upstate NY. Trails were nothing but mud...we're talking major ruts, water, and thick mud........nothing but mud....the Rancher was amazing!!!! My brother couldn't get it stuck!!! It was like a little tank out there. My bro in law has a Sportsman 500 H.O. and went through the mud like it wasn't even there. The Rancher went everywhere he went. Myself on the other hand was riding my 400ex. Not the best in that kind of mud. I got stuck like 4 times in the first 15 minutes of hitting the trails. Not a fun day. Make a long story short....after seeing how well 4-wheel drive works and since most of our riding is in woods and trails....My brother and I have each bought 04 Sportsman 500 H.O.'s. I would recommend the Rancher to anyone who is thinking about getting an ATV that doesn't want to spend alot of money but wants an excellent machine. Sporty enough but a utility machine. Just me rambling on!! See ya on the trails!!

My recon has done 53 with it's 25 inch tires. They didn't have stock size at the shop so my dad just got 25's and they look huge for a little recon. A lot of bottom was lost though.

Ya ranchers are great quads!Mine has 6600 miles on it and going strong still.I can't pop wheelies on it kick it around hit much when i want to but not get through anything like whatmy foreman can do.BUt it's great for all around riding.Out of all my quads i think my rancher is one of the funest. Now the foreman is only fun to grab the deep mud with!

Keep in mind that weight and mods play an important role in speed.
