Fundamental mechanical question:

Whats the diff between a stroker and a big bore? if both are, by example, 440cc, the first have a longer stroke and a smaller bore and the other one have a larger bore and a shorter stroke?

the stroker will have more torque to it.

Im pretty sure the big bore will rev a little quicker, but not 100% on this

nah acually when you have a 440 bore and stroke combo your boreing your engine to a 416 and stroking it to a 440

which makes your engine rev faster and still you have that 440 brute power

like say a 416 was racing a 440 in a short distance race the 416 would get off the line faster a rev quicker but the 440 is going to have more overall power

so with the 440 bore and stroke combo you get the best of both worlds

the only bad thing about it is you have to run 50 50 race fuel

thats the only down fall on the whole thing

So a bigger bore, with a shorter stroke will rev faster, and feel like it has more power, but a longer stroke, with smaller bore/same size bore, will have more power, but seem like not as snappy...

foxkid, well said, except for the last statement about running 50/50. you only have to run 50/50 if your motor is above 11:1 compression. octane has nothing to do with stroke, only compression.

I have a 426 bore right now and plan on doing a 440 or 450 stroker with my next motor, they dont run as hot and are have awesome torque. I think with the longer stroke of the stroker a lightened flywheel would make it rev like a champ.

ok yeah you dont have to run 50 50 but they recemend that you do becuase i have only found 1 stroker kit and its VERY close to 11:1 comp

it might even be 11:1

but they say you should run 50 50 unless you are above sea level

so you have me there you dont have to but you should

so when you decide between a stroker or a big bore either go with the 416 kit or go with the 440 bore and stroke combo

i wouldnt even think of gettin the 440 unless you are set on not running race fuel
