I need your help here to settle a little dispute with my dad. He said his cousin had a 1970 (possibly 70.5 or 71) Nova SS454. That means factory installed 454, and he said it had the 454 badges on the side. My guess it was really a 71' Chevelle LS5, which had the 2 total headlights (like the Nova), and said "SS454" on the side. I have spent hours looking on the web for any indication that you could get a 454 Nova, and can't find anything. Can anyone point me to a better forum to ask this on, or a site that has the info on it? Or do any of you know if this car existed?

Thanks in advance..

not possible. the only way you could get a 454 powered Nova was if it was a Yenko. and there are only about 200 of those left. its more than likely a 71 chevelle SS LS6 454. ive got a 70 El Camino SS with a 383 stroker in it and i love old chevy muscle cars. so i can garuntee that there wernt any production 454 Novas, or i would already have one!

Hmm. He can't check the VIN because this was over 25 years ago when his cousin had it, and my dad lost touch with him when he moved from NJ to NH 20 years ago.

I searched some more and still can't find anything. If it is a Chevelle, I would think it's a LS5 not an LS6, because the LS5s were the only ones that actually said "454SS" on the side, and my dad siad this car said "454SS" on it. He seems pretty positive that they really made 454 Novas, and he does know his muscle cars (owned several when he was younger and used to race for years - 69' Z28, GTO, 73' Nova, Impalas, 67' Monte Carlo, 66' Chevelle Malibu, and countless others). The only other thing I can figure is that it was a Nova, but his cousin just dropped a 54 in it and stuck the decals on the side. I don't even think the Yenkos came with 454s, I thought it was only the 350/396 and sometimes the 427. The Nova came with the 427 at one point, right? I saw a Nova (now that I think of it it could have been a later Chevelle) with a 427 (with factory 427 emblems) for sale for around 7,000$. I wish I bought it.

The 396BB was an option but I've never seen nor heard of a factory 454 in a Nova. I had a 69 with a .30 over LS6 set up for 1/4 mile drags, fun ride...
