I'm 99% sure I'll be there. Ridin or cheering though, don't know yet, depends on the weather. The last one at St Clairsville, I lifted my quad out of deep mud 37 times, and I'm not exactly in good enough shape to do that agian!

Another spectator here. This will be my first time ever seeing a GNCC race, any tips? I plan on coming down just Sat. for the day. How early should I get there? What to bring? Do you just walk back in the woods and look for a good spot to watch?
Thanks. Jeff

Thanks. Jeff The morning race starts at 10am so you may want to get there at 8 or 9.
When you get there, ask around for the best place to watch from.
You are allowed to walk anywhere on the track you like as long as you stay out of the racers way.

well first off my g/f and i went to our first gncc race and i keep getting emails from her at work, "go get your self a new 400ex it think it is a great idea , go go" and she tells me she wants to race now all the time we are going to st clairsville, and we went to sparta she said "now that they are in the woods do we wait till they come back?" hell no go in the woods you can see a lot more get theere early, we got there around 8 for a 10 am race, i would reccomend asking an official in a gncc shirt for good places to watch , definatly watch the satre there is nothing better that watching 48 4 wheelers coming straight at you unless you are one of those 48, i have never raced a gncc, but ti watch it was a blast, we walked the trach backwards, you see mor going torda them then tying to chase them, and i would reccomend running on the trail, it is a lot safer knoeing that you can see them coming just stay out of the way some of thiose guys are crazy and you dont want to get in their way and take a camrea or a video camera(well worth it) .
go
enjoy
be careful,
and take pictures and
have a blast!

well 5 laps on a 10 mile loop in the woods 2 hours that averages to be 25 miles an hour
on a 4 wheeler
in the thick woods
that is a bit faster than my friends ride,
maybe that is why my friends dont race

Yeah deffinetly bringing the Digital camera. I'm bringing the wife so she gets an idea of what its all about to. I think she'll have a good time? The pros start later right? I'm looking forward to seeing Johnny G and the rest of the Pro Prod. class. How about the pit area, open and accesible?

at sparta there was a nice creek crossing and it went to a landing directly up hill, it was all clay and there were a lot of people thet were having problems when the pros got to race it was pretty slick and it was a major place to watch, one guy on a 400 ex stood his quad up and tipped into a tree about 3 inches round and he was pinned there a lot of people were ther watching it was a good spot

Last year my cousin and I stood at the top of a hill which was a big, left-hand sweeper. At the bottom was a dried out creek bed. That's where I literally had to jump out of the way because a guy's Hiper rim grenaded on him coming up the hill. I thought he broke the axle until he nearly ran my foot over and I could see the rim flopping all over the place. For everyone who has them, wear your EXRiders T-shirt so we can all meet up.

Yeah, I know, I know, no pro's run them. They're just afraid to try them. "Kenda" still isn't a "cool" name..... :blah:

No seriously, I've ran Razors, Holeshots and now the Kenda's. Holeshots wouldn't slide predictably for me, and I did like the original Razors. But I'd have to say the Kenda's are as good if not better than my Razors and they're cheaper.

It seems tires fit a certain riding style I guess. It's all in how you ride and react to the terrain. A buddy of mine loves his Holeshot XCT's, and he can slide that thing around anything with them on. I was 2 wheelin and sliding out when I ran Holeshots. So I switched to Razors.

But the fastest rider will have Kenda under him........Johnny C. I guarantee it! :macho

ON the tire thingy. I've run all 3 tires mentioned. The kenda's are my MX tires and they are by far the best tire i've ever used on a MX track. I haven't used them for XC so i don't know how they are in the woods.

I've popped both razr's and holeshots. But i do favor the holeshots over the razr's in muddy conditions..

6ply sidewalls...how are those thin? you been spending too much time in the dirt!! Just like gas, oil, and gear...tons of choices, plenty of good ones, and plenty of opinions...
I will stick w/ what has worked best for me.

i'm not to impressed w/ my 2nd set of "new" razr 2's i just bought. first race on them and got a flat. checked it when i got home and one of the 1/2 knobs on the inside edge ripped 1/2 off and put a hole in the tire. it's like the knob seperrated from the tire. anyone ever have this happen?:huh

joedirt
09-29-2003, 09:04 PM
hey when Ellis was runnin them last year he got a ton of side wall flats callin it like I see it. MAXXIS is for me they help me out too. They have a good rider support program. They sponsor the series. TO EACH HIS OWN

DoogieJAB
09-30-2003, 08:11 AM
I put Kenda Knarly's on my 250 when I wore out the stock tire and I liked them a lot better. I plan on running them on the 400 I just got too. I'm no racer obviously, but they seem to do well on the trails for me.

09-30-2003, 12:04 PM
I think alot of sidewall holes are caused from someone running to low of air pressure in there tires. Yeah it grabs better and adds 13.785934903 seconds to a full lap of a gncc race...:rolleyes:at least for the slow racer that I am. get into faster racers yes 13 sec. is eternity, but I think most of us on the page are not those top racers.. To me loosing that 13 seconds is better than losing a $60 tire that's brand new. $3 plaque or $60 tire?????

As for ellis probably the same thing.. lots of muddy races this year and running 4 lbs of air in a tire and jumping 110 feet...well no chit sherlock it's gonna get a hole in it...:huh

09-30-2003, 12:33 PM
rico whar tire pressure are you running ?

ZRacer
09-30-2003, 12:58 PM
I'm with Joedirt! Razr tires are the only way to go!

I haven't had one puncture all year with them, and I have raced over 25 Harescrambles this year. Last year, I ran Holeshots and had a flat almost every other race. I threw away tires with perfect tread from one race because the side wall was ripped out.

I have been running the original 6ply razrs. I will be using razr2 fronts at my next race this weekend in St. Clairsville. I keep hearing great things about them, so I can't wait to see how they do.

jja125
09-30-2003, 01:07 PM
i've ridden at my house & run local xc races all summer and at taylortown on the same set of razr2's with only about 4.5lbs of air w/ no problems so far.

i destroyed the sidewalls on my stockers and a set of holeshot rears just riding at my house earlier this spring - cut up on rocks i guess.

i just wish i had 22"er's with all the mud this year.

just my $0.02

Kory Ellies busting tires eh...lets think...4ply and 2ply Klaw MX are not the same as the 6ply XC Klaws two different tires...two different results. What are almost all the guys out west running in baja, off-road, and MX....Klaws..alot of em have shunned the MX series to run the more durable XC versions w/ 6ply.

Another fine race at clairsville....and no tire problems.

Eventually you will all move away from the old technology...and move towards the future.
