That looks like one mean picture. But if you look at it right it looks to me like it's fake. First off in my opinion, if that's the hurricane it doesn't matter what side of the storm your on there will be some wind thus producing waves. You don't think a storm that was that big wouldn't make waves look what it did to north carolina. Yes that was the front of the storm but there's always wind on the back side also.

Hey genius do u know how big Isabel is? thats just the very outter part of the Storm that means the center could be anywhere from 10 to 40 miles inward from the outter rim of the storm thats why u dont see any waves.

Well I'm no genius but if you said the the eye of the storm is 40 miles away from the outer band of clouds and rain. How can you explain that the storm could be 400 miles away from North Carolina and still have waves 40 miles offshore. You think that right after the storm went by the ocean just got so calm like that. The still complaining on the Jersey shore of the waves from that storm. When you watched the weather on it the wind in Jersey was a steady 30mph for two days. One day before and one day after it went by. So yes there is wind on all side of it. WHICH WOULD CAUSE WAVES TO FORM ON ALL SIDES.

That picture is so bs. Isabel hit 200 miles away from the waters where I live and is was so freaking rough in ocean that most boat stayed in shore. That water looks so calm I would swim in it! PLus I have experienced three hurricanes in my life and I never remember the wall of death approaching.

I'm not so sure that is true... I was on a Cruise ship and was within 100 miles of this beast. Like you I thought the Sea's would be huge but the water was like glass! I've never seen the ocean like that before. My neighbor who was with us, is a Coast Guard Captain. He was trying to explain that the storm was actually blocking the swells(Leeward)... It's possible that this ship was in leeward of the storm or near a leeward island... I guess this is what Sailor's mean by the "calm before the storm" phrase...

It's fake... You can see the distortion in the grey area of the storm cloud. My brotherinlaw in an imagery expert and spotted it immediately... Still a cool pic..
