A buddy and me are arguing about when the 250R 3-wheeler was in production and when the 250R 4-wheeler was in production. Can anyone tell me the production years for the two machines? Thanks!

Liquid cooled atc 3 wheelers 85 - 86, trx's 86-89, but they were making 250r 3 wheelers I think in 1978 or 1979 but they were all air cooled, basically a totally different motor but 250 2 stroke non the less & called a 250R.

ATC250R 1981-1984 air cooled. ATC250R 1985-1986 liquid cooled. TRX250R 1986-1989 all liquid cooled.:D

I don't recall when they FIRST started making the three wheelers, but they were all air-cooled before 85. I think they started before 83, but 78 sounds too early. In 85 and 86 they made the liquid-cooled three wheelers. The 4-wheelers were made from 86 to 89. The model number for ALL three-wheelers was the ATC250R, the model number for the 4 wheelers was the TRX250R

The first atc 250r (air cooled) where the 81 model that came out in 80. They changed the design to the bigger, skinnier front tire model in 83 - 84 (complete redesign). The water cooled model was 85-86(another complete redesign).

What it increadible is how many changes they did year to year. They would completely redesign them every two years. Now a days, you would be lucky if you got new grips and graphics on a new model. Hopefully with the factories getting back into racing this will change.

The first ones were pretty scary...
Drum brakes , very little suspension travel...
