I just ordered a set of the FDO head studs and I am now wondering what I will need to install them in my motor? Do I need any special tools or should a machine shop do it?

I just put the new head studs in last week, have a machine shop drill and tap your cylinder, I did not have a end tap and the new studs are about 1/2" longer than stock and if you do not get the hieght right your valve cover will not fit and you will not get your spacers on.
Also check your new studs, one of mine was not perfectly striaght, I didn't feel like waiting for a new one from Ohio so I straighten it myself, what a pain in the arse.
Make sure all your ducks are in a row or you will play hell getting your head on right.
Good luck,

when i put mine in i put two nuts on them then butted them together and used my dial calipers to measure them into the correct distance from the head

Here is the new web page for FDO racing, it has a bunch about the studs, I think you can just drill & tap it out but FDO will do it for you, they use a thread forming bottom tap instead of thread cutting.

Any other ideas on torquing the head studs? I try the dbl nut method and it just turns both of them without turning the stud at all.. Am I missing something? One on top of the other and torque on the top one right?
