Tires and grips. Cool!

That's obvious but will I have to get new air for my tires and will the grip glue I am currently using on my 400ex work or will I have to buy a new brand and re-apply?

Thanks in advance.

Are they gonna dicontinue the 400ex completly or still make a 2004 400?

little400exman, Im alost positive the front ends of both machines are the same. I think the only difference is the shocks on the 450r is a little taller.

My bunghole tells me lots of things, though :confused2 :macho

i heard the 450r's a-arms are a 1/2 inch wider and the front shocks have a little longer stroke. not sure if there interchangable, but they are deffinitly different.

I also think for hodan to cancel the 400s would be a stupid mistake, get read of the best selling sport quad in the history or atvs? i dont think so.

450R = Honda's Best Race Quad
400EX = Honda's Best Trail/Rec Quad.

Seriously - my guess is the axle/carrier and maybe swing arm, but I would be really suprised if the a-arms and shocks are. I would be glad if they are, but don't count on it. But I can't see them changing the axle carrier setup...

they have changed the front brakes to the dual caliper so the spindles might be different as well

if the 450 shocks are only 1/2 longer Im sure they could be bolted up to a 400.
Should be great for the guys with 400's, should start seeing plenty of 450 shocks on ebay when they start upgrading to elkas, axis.. ect.

hey man i got a buddy that runs an R and a 400 and hes talked to a couple guys from baldwin and he said you can definitely swap in a lonestar/dura-blue 400 axle on it i don't know about the front end and the swinger..... and who ever said grips are inter changeable is a dumb **** i've never heard of a grip designed specifically for a 400

wb,

Grips are no longer universal? ATV or Bike? Thumb or Twist? I B Khan-fuzed.

a quad grip is the same as a jet ski grip and your right the only difference is thumb or twist but they're all universal

my bad the original message was supposed to say anyone who thinks quad grips ARE NOT inter changeable is a dumb ****

I have been told by a very very relieable source that none of the chassis components from the EX will fit on the R. Also, the only part interchangeable between 450 quad engine and the 450 bike engine is the valve cover.

The December ATV Sport has an article about the 450 and they interviewed the top dog.
He said he didn't think any parts are interchangeable.

The pictures and the quad at the dealer show, had 400ex suspension on them, other than the shocks. 250R and 400ex a arms are soemwhat interchangeable, with new bushings, so one would assume that the new 450 will be the same. As far as anybody knowing what is on there and how it compares to 400ex/250R, the design is not final in Japan, yet, so its a guess.
Freeride, I agree but only with the axle, I think the carrier is a ?
I do know that the tooling for many parts is not even complete yet, including the all new rear linkage design. It is entirely possible, that the quad that is released will share nothing with the pictures you have seen. Not likely, but possible.

My local dealer told me that none of the parts are interchangeable, honda designed an entirely new frame for this one, and yes, he went to the dealer show.

hey guys if you find any 450r shocks really cheap please let me know because if they don't fit the 400ex by being a machinist I can do some machine work and I know they will work then.So please somebody somewhere sell me some 450r shocks really cheap.Oh yea the motor would be nice too.

For a FACT:

A-Arms---------NO
Shocks---------NO
Front Bumper-YES
Rear Bumper--YES, 250R not 400ex obviously

How do you know for a fact that the a-arms and shocks won't work?

the only parts i need to know if are interchangeable are the rearend. i am planing on buy a new front end for the bike. i want long travel. well i already have an rpm carrrier and axle in my 400, so it would sweet if those parts will fit in the new bike, and if so the money i saved i could buy a swing arm (why save money).

ROGERS

Very good sources. And pertaining to your rear end working, I KNOW the linkage is different than a 400 and it is not CRF linkage. Your carrier may end up working, I can't think of a reason why they would change that, but I don't know for a FACT that it will or won't.

Linkage have the same mesurement than a 400ex but shock is shorter an more anguled so the shape is just different (more bend). Swingarm, front arm and shock will not work. So sale your 400 one whit the bike. No kidding

I know you wanted a 100%, but I'm just going to guess anyway. The A-arms are a little more than 1" wider and the wheelbase is longer than the 400, so I doubt the front ends are going to match up, even though they look similar.

didn't they put an extra bearing in the carrier on the 450? makes me wonder if it may be a little differant.
