Who here has ran a 16T front sprocket. Everyone I've talked to said they wouldn't put one on if someone paid them. But I bought one for the hell of it and I'm really happy with it. It makes first gear alot more usable, and took 8 tenths of a second of its quarter mile time. If anyone else has used one tell me what you think. Or if you never have tell me why you won't try one. personally its my favorite over the 14. Post some feedback on them.

foxhonda, yea I've run the 16 on my 502. My motor has no problem pulling 16-33 gears for drag. For XC my 502 luvs 15-38 with 22's.

ive used one for years and like it ,acts kinda like a overdrive in top gear and much easyer on the motor not having to rev so hard all the time!;)

I was starting to feel like the only person to ride with a 16T front gear. I had always heard you couldn't put on a case saver with them, but I was able to modify the stock one to make it work with it.

i love the 16 tooth front. the 14's arent worth a crap for what i use my bike for. there is just not enough speed up top with the 14. i personally don't think you lose much low end power with the 16 either.

I also run a 16 tooth with a magnum case savor.. I have never tried a different front sprocket I did try a 36 tooth rear at the dunes one time and did not have enought bottom end for me to lug.. so I have struck with the 16/37 combo :)

I've been racing XC for two years. Last year I noticed that the 440's and the 660's, had a noticable pull on my stock 400 engine in the straights, so I decided to try a 16 tooth countershaft sprocket. With a dead engine take off in XC, I started getting more holeshots, and staying with these guys. Who would have thought. Everyone laughed when I told them all I did was change the sprocket. now everyone on a 400EX uses one.

There are alot of people that are totally against the 16T, but i think its one of the best mods i've made on my quad. I had it timed on a drag strip with both the 15 and 16 and the 16 wasn't slower than the 15 in any of the locations, just proves the 400ex has more power than we think it does. :D

Question??

Anybody runnin a 16 w/o motor mods (high comp, bore)??

I'm lightly modded----slip on, filter, jetted & tuned right.

When I first got my 400, & found this site, it seemed like 14 was the way everybody was going.

I almost orderd one, then I realised that I could take off in second gear & still have plenty torque, I've never even hit the rev limiter.

So i was thinking why would I have a need for lower gearing.

Now i'm thinkin about a 16.

I just ride 4 fun I dont race, except for when i'm goin on a ride with my buds, even then nothing serious.

I got low end for days like all other 400's
But I would like a higher top speed (16) if it won't make my bike any weaker down low.

I know a 14t will win in a drag, but all around??
I would rather have a few more mph wide open than a few tenths quicker in a drag .

I guess I just want to know if anyone else has a bike w/ similar mods as mine, & if they switched from stock to 16t & how they felt about their performance afterwards.

Thanks

all i've done to my 400 is full exhaust, rejeted the carb and k&n filter. It pulls the 16 hard. My friend has a 400 with the same mods and i can smoke him with the 16T, i'm even heavier than him.

Same here, only WB slip-on and k&n jet kit. I can stay with any 416, until they wrap it out in 5th.

its all about how and where you ride. see sig for mods

when i ride with my 4x4 friends we go thru the river - lots of techinical rough stuff 2nd gear is the highest you ever really get. the 14T works best here. for gravel road/fast trail ride you cant beat the 16T. and for any combo of the two the stock gearing works best. but the best part is its only like $15/sprocket and you can be set-up for anything.

how big of a gain will you get on the top end, and how much will i gain/loose on the mid or bottom end???

I have the same thoughts as you guys. I run 16/38. I felt i had more than enough bottom end so why not gear it up some more to get more topend. Works good for all around riding with my 20's and feels like stock gearing when i run my mxr's
