I was just wondering if anyone knew the cause for blown head gaskets, and if there was any way to prevent them from happening.

The real reason for the blown head gaskets after going thouhg 3 myself is that the stock head bolts are streching. This is what I was told by 2 big engine builders when I was at the last national. I then got a set of the larger studs from Tom Carslon and have not blown a gasket since. He said that the stock studs are weak and only go into the cylinder not into the case and the heat from the engine is causing them to pull out of the head and strech.

Ok so can I get these better bolts anywhere else?

check around, many different places have them. I just happened to get mine from Carlson and they worked. Make sure that the base of the stud is 12mm.

after blowing 4 head gaskets i was referred to F.D.O. racing in ohio. give em a call and leave a message (and they WILL get back to ya). the # is 1-740-967-1078 after installing the over size stud i have yet to blow one, however they do require you to install them yourself, or you have to send the jug out. lata

Ok cool what can I expect to pay for a set of these? And how hard are they to install?
