As always, I had a great time! I wish that I felt better, but the 4 dayquil on Saturday allowed me to breath for the race. Unfortunately, my key pit man Pappy(Kenny Hill) was too sick to make it, but my father and luckily my cousin(Justin) from WV came up to help and did a great job. It sucked that I lost my rear brakes in the 4th lap because I wanted to have a better overall finish, but atleast I won the class, so now I can't wait till Sparta.

Most importantly, I was able to take a lot of pictures which I will be posting tonight. Also, I was able to meet several exriders.com members for the first time(400exmom, Woolin, Indygncc, Ranger400ex, lt250r91, GNCCracer and a few others that I forgot their names). It was great meeting everyone of you.

Congrats to 400exmom(Kim) on her 8th Place finish, and hopefully you will be able to make it to Sparta.

Congrats to GNCCracer*(Chad) for winning the Junior Class.

Indygncc(Adam) also did well and took 4th overall in the morning.

I don't know how the other new members I met did, but again, it was great seeing everyone.

Chris Borich also said he had a problem with brakes and he has dual caliper 250r brakes. Mine were fading at the end it might have just been because they were packed with grass. Nice meeting everyone.

shane said he went to harold goodmans house to pick up his quad and harold talked him into going to the gncc~ and then on lap 4 i saw harold goodman helpin change a tire and i asked him WHAT R U doin?? he said he just got tired and gave it up

lt250r91

Well it's offical The GG 300 engine maybe bulletproof but it's not 'Super'Trapp proof. I was burning up the track cruising right along and moving up through the class and on the start of the 4th lap (with the 2 to go sign) I saw I was in 11th place in the class and I was feeling in the zone when I came up to the section in the woods before the open field section 1-2 mile section when I went from burning up the track to burning up the engine. yep that's right the dealer said the piston is welded to the cylinder, the bottom end is trashed, and the radiator was empty.

We've come to the conclusion that 3 different factors when combined cuased the damage. First off my mechanic changed the jetting cause a lean mixture, added with the fact the exhaust flange broke and started sucking mud and dirt into the engine. Plus the radiator was packed with mud causing the temp to grow.

So needless to say I had a good race going unto all heck broke loose. Got my fingers cross that It'll be ready for Sparta and that the bill isn't to large. I hope everyone else experience was alot better.

Mike

I know Jeff, I even mention that to Rick (GG's east coast rep). His reply was call Don ( my dealer) and get the quad there and tell him to contact Rick with the details of want happen. I talked to Don today and he said the engine was bad and he was going to get ahold of Rick and plans on having the quad ready for rd 11. I'll find out if it is ready if not the practice/backup quad will be ready.

Hey Jeff did you see the points in your class. Pretty tight now between you and Cook.

There are enough Bensons to have a race team and to have a full pit crew! Shane's dad just picked up a 463 kit like Chad Wallace's. He has been running a bone stock Z-400 with a White Brothers pipe - so look out for him next race.

Ryan,

By the way Shane looked on the 5th lap, I don't think you will be seeing him on another cross-country race. He was so tired, he couldn't throw his goggles to our pits and we were only 5 feet away. Mike Benson and I have been racing with Shane since 1987 when I first moved back here. It was good to see Mike, who turned 40 this year, catch and pass Shane by the end of the 5th lap. I guess Shane got mad when I was teasing him about riding around in circles for 20 minutes - he wasn't going to race but he showed up on the track which surprised me.

Nice meeting you and great pics. Keep up the awesome work on this site.

Gncc311
I was wandering what happen to you. That sucks get that thing fix up and get back in the top 5. All this bad luck just plain stinks hoplefully it changes soon can't afford to keep fixin quads. See you at Sparta.

Jeff
I don't know if you want the low down on your points battle with Cook, but here it is:

First off the good news you have clinched a top 2 spot in the class. As for who will get first it will come down to the last round more than likely. Here's the deal:

1 CAN 176 Jeff Stoess 2, 6, 3, 4, 11, 6, 1, 2, 1, 2 = 162
2 HON 039 Bryan Cook 9, 1, 1, 25, 1, 2, 7, 1, 3, 3, = 161

Currently you have a 1 pt advantage over Bryan, but with the 4 throw aways he is in the driver seat. Both of you have now used 1 of your toss outs (Your 11th and Cook's 25th). As it stands for the other throw aways Your 3 worst finishes are 6, 6, 4 so you would have to finish the last three better than 4th to gain pts. Most you can add would be 13 if you won all 3 remaining races = 175

As for Bryan his has a 9, 7, 3 as his worst 3 races, with that if he was to win the rest he would add 16 pts on his current total = 177.

With that said you have to beat him at the last 3 to take 1st.

It's still tough to really tell because of the throw outs I'd say just focus on top 3 finishes to add to your points and let everything else just work it's way out.

See everyone at Sparta.

Mike

I think Bryan may have a new ride next year that might give him a little more speed in the next few races.:)

Hey Mickey
Rick let me throw a leg over Brad's/Chad's GG450 for a little pit riding. Lets just say I had a big grin on my face for a little while afterwords. I also got on one at my dealers later in the day and notice it had a little more pep than the one you have been testing. I think Rick was right that yours may need the top end refreshed. Big Bore time:D

One other thing to think about since Racer production changed the rules in the stock class. How about a GG450 in that class next season? I know a GG rider that has race the class previously and maybe looking to switch back to a 4-stroke. I mention this to Rick about getting someone on one in that class.

I'm still a little steamed about changing the rule in the middle of the season just because of a new quad that isn't allow in the class do to not allow front shocks with cans.

Geez, Wayne I thought you looked 40. lol great ride.

Was that nuts or what, I think that was the largest turn out for the Vet class "34" I at least saw two up side down before the going into the woods. Must be them 4-Strk A guys coming down.

I suspect that Hitt and Goodman decided to race in preparation for the 12 hours of America race next month. Rumor has it that they are teaming up with Farr to race it.

Goodman raced on mjnova's YFZ450 (mjnova had to race on his poor old Blaze). Supposedly Goodman burnt up the battery on the 3rd lap and had to quit. I suspect that he was just tired and was looking for an excuse. It looks like he was bumping and grinding it out on the first lap with Jeff.

Yeah, he was on the new Yamaha. It was probably just a typo.

Mickey just a question what would i have to do to beable to get a sponsorship from you. i read all of the other pennsylvania thread. and u did say that u were lookin for another 17 year old rider. but i was just wondering. if u are considering it i am in open B with shane and was a head of him in points until i broke the shifter and burned the clutch out. also what does shanes sponsorship include?

that was my first gncc and it was great. that track was about the funnest thing i have ridden on yet. i am assuming it was easier than most gncc's but i don't know. i think i got 21st in first year racer, but that's fine with me. i had some kind of flu and i broke my pointer finger when a tree jumped out in front of me on the first lap and my handgrip fell off on the last lap (on the same side as the broken finger) - but i still finished so i was happy. now i'm just debating wether or not to make the 5hr drive to kentucky next weekend.

Go ahead and make the 5hr drive, Sparta its one of the best tracks on the circuit in my opinion.

I was looking for a young rider that I could bring along as a pro rider, someone who needed help and was already doing well with what he already had. Each racer gets something different acording to class. A good pro rider will get about $10,000 in parts plus win money ect.

They have a article on atv news about them. I asked one of bills freinds about them. He said that bill has the only two sets made and he has been testing them all summer. They are a radial tire.

quadman21
09-10-2003, 10:28 AM
There's a small one on the GNCC site in the quad reports. But I'm curious too wehther or not someone gat a good picture of it. The results page lists the brand as an LRD. So does that mean this thing is basically a full LRD Chassis set-up like he's been running but with ths Z engine? Or is the site wrong like they mis labelled Chad's quad as a honda?

Hotdog
09-10-2003, 11:26 AM
I got a pic of it but id didn't come out to good. But i will be posting a pic tomorrow of it that is upclose in the pits. It is one awesome machine. LRD attitude frame, aftermarket rad., axis shocks. lrd exhaust.

You know? it's about 2pm here on the east cost and i haven't heard any sirens, bells, or whistles going off about this honda??? It was supposed to be announced today...right? It feels like New Years Eve 99 and everyone waiting for all the computers to shut down:ermm: they never did.

Was that nuts or what, I think that was the largest turn out for the Vet class "34" I at least saw two up side down before the going into the woods.
your right popo, i was doing lots of praying before the race. i was lined up straight on w/ the haybale:huh . but i went into the first wood section 3rd behind husley. one thing that did surprise me was that guys will scream at racers in there own class even when your right behind the next guy in line. it worked this time, but next time they'll earn the spot.

Taylortown was my first national. I ran the SPORT class with my 300EX.

This link shows the start.

http://www.photoreflect.com/scripts/prsm.dll?eventorder?photo=03VE00FT070056&start=0&album=0&adjust=-1&d=0

The Benson kid on the Mickey Dunlap 330EX beat me thru the turn but I had the holeshot, wish I had my 330 in but I was stock. I over shot the second turn and lost second but held third for a while.

Finished 6th right behind Dave M. Was a great race. And I got a plaque.

I saw Mr. Benson sitting in the woods, What happened to him. He was running pretty fast before that.

Screwed up on shirt buyin though.

Picked up a Teeshirt and had Yokley autograph it and when I got home to show it to my wife I found out I was given a motorcycle shirt....DOH!!!!!! So I have William Yokely's autograph on a dirt bike shirt.

Does anyone else have any Sport class pics?
