depends a lot on class. go suspension mods first then motor mods

p.s. i have a curtis sparks build 318x motor if your interested. that will help you win

i did pretty well on my old 300 but it just is a lot of work. You definatly need shocks..

i raced my 300. it was highly modded out and i beat most of the modded 400's in the D class. i killed the blasters, warriors adn stuff. remember mine was a 355 but if you're good you should've have a problem keeping up/beating them. i suggest you get a 400 though. everyone told me taht and i didn't listen to them, i should have cause now the 400 doesn't even have enough power.

Sorry about the old pust but i thought i would post my opinioin.

You can race your 300ex if you want to deck it out. There is a class for just 300's, blasters, and 250x's.

My 250x has:
Curtis Sparks 318cc motor
Sparks Exhaust
Leager +2 A-arms
400ex shock mounts/shocks
Lonestar +4 axle
Leager Swingarm
Leager Steering Stem
Renthal Chain and sprockets
Renthal Handlebars
Hiper Tech. Wheels
RAZR mx tires
AC nerfs/skids
DG bumper/grab bar
Steel braided brake lines
Mikuni FLatslide Carb

and so on....the list will go forever

I do GREAT in the youth production class.

And i finish in the top 8 in the quad "b" most of the time....usualy about 20-25 riders.

Bottom line is you probably wont win on less you do alot of mods.

If you are just getting started then fine, run a few races then get a 400ex/450r. If you are dead set on racing the 300 or are 14-15 years old I would suggest you get a 400ex/250r frame and mount the 300 engine into it. There are places that make the motor mounts you need for this. then when you are done with that class you just stick a 400/450r motor in the frame and your ready to go. It takes alot to win the points if you don't use the 400/250r frame. Look at the mods in my sig I can't stay with the guys on the 400/250r framesin the corners. I pull the holeshot but then they just blow by me in the corners.

Hope this helps.

your bike setup seems fine, make sure your running razor or holeshot MX's thought. (18 inch rear,21 inch front). and since its MX i would get a set of AC nerfs. start in a class with blasters, warriors, and other 300's. C or B i dont know how fast u are.

I have raced my 250x platformed quad for 2 summers now. Last year i had the stock 250x motor, nothing but a pipe on for motor mods. I have the 250R front end setup with a-arms, flipped the rims around and got a Lonestar rear axle from Golden West Cycle, best place to buy lonestar, 320 dollars. This year I upgraded in motors dramatically to a 350x. I can pull the holeshot pretty good if i keep the front end down. I have pulled on mild 250R's, mild 400ex's, and raptors. If you can get your hands on 350x motor, go for it, all you need is the electrics, a special headpipe, and a stock carb and you are set. If you ever get around to dropping one in look me up. Its very competitive in the lower classes.

I thought that under a ATVA sanctioned event if your running the youth 14/15 year old 200/300 class that it had to be stock frame and limited overbore. I know on the outlaw tracks its whatever, unless your challenged.

Well in Minnesota in the Sport Quad class it is 200 cc 2stroke/350 4-stroke... Im not sure about the youth classes, we dont have those around the midwest unless it is an All Quad Day... Guess you will have to check and see...

only rules in aircooled atva races are 240cc 2-stroke and 300c 4-stroke. you can run anything else.

For 2004 ATVA may change the 14-15 year old class to 13-15 year old, which now makes those 250x's and 300ex's worth putting some money into if you plan to race ama/atva sanctioned events.

2003 was first year the 14 -15 rule went into affect and the first GNC national had like 5or 6 riders. By the time the series got to Loreeta lynns, there were 22 riders in the class.

Before this rule most outlaw tracks had a 0-350 class which included warriors and mojave's. Now alot of them are switching to the 200/300 class.

rules: 91 cc to 200 2 stroke & 300cc 4 stroke Production class (14-15 years age) (production key word)

Production: cannot exceed maxium class displacement. Stock frame and engine cases from original manufacturer of that make and model must be used.

I was talking about the air-cooled class not production, sorry I should have been more clear. There were 14 & 15 year olds running the air-cooled class at southwick the last GNC race. Just about all of them were running a 250r style frame. I know of at least one kid running a 240cc kit in a blaster with the head shaved to increase compression.

What about the air-cooled classes, is there more than one or just the regular air-cooled? If so what is the maximum displacement, such as my 350x motor would that qualify? Thanks!

300exHILLER
10-07-2003, 03:47 PM
yes there is more than one air-cooled class at the national level. there is regular air-cooled and 14-15 air-cooled production. The max displacement is 300cc 4-stroke so you would have to run with the 400ex, z400, yfz's etc. If you could run the 350X engine I would have already switched the motors out of my quad.

can't do more than a .080 over bore that will bring you to 297cc. any more than than you will be running with the 400's

How are those PEP shocks on your 300? I'm really considering running them over axis on the 450R.

i like them alot and i also like to jump big jumps they keep up, i was jumping over a truck 2 days ago and they were fine. i push extra hard when riding because all my friends have 400s and raptors or shees. but i out jump all of them and can hang with them in whoops and on track.
i think u will be very happy with them

ride300exrider

well after reading this i feel a bit dissapointed :( , i just bought a 330 kit because everyone told me the limit was 350 because the warriors supposedly race in the class... and thats why i thought everyone was doing the 350x motor switch...so i have to race my 330 against dayum 440s!!! this bites the big one here...

ride300exrider
10-12-2003, 05:29 PM
yea i was about to do a 330 kit but if i cant race the other 300s forget that.
i thought it was a 350cc 4 stroke limit???

The cc limits in your area my be different than mine but I know in GNC that is the rules.

In my class (NEATV-MX) you have to be 14 to race in the air-cooled class. I'm 23 and have seen 40 year olds race.
