Anybody ever heard of putting a YZ piston in a 250R?? If you have, any idea what the benefits of this might be? weight? strength? :confused2 :scary:

Heres one better yet for you Nokomis... I just bought a MX Ported LRD cylinder thats currently running a YZ piston..... Thats where this question is coming from heh :confused2 :confused2 I will be putting a 250r piston back into it, I just wanted the ported cylinder... but I am wondering why a YZ piston?

Probably for better port timing for the intended application.

I have heard of people putting phazer sled pistons in their 310 R's. There has got to be a reason... maybe its just cheaper?

Ok I found out a little more on this setup.... you have to have the long rod to run a yz piston cuz of the stroke you need, but its supposed to have wicked fast revving much like the 86's have with the shorter rods. You can also use a 250r 69mm piston which wiseco makes & it is the same size as the yz piston & you can bore it one more time & they make a 69.5 says mac dizzy but I didn't find it.... so I will be putting the 69mm wiseco in it & see how she scoots cuz I have a short rod & don't plan on changing it.

I agree, it probably changes the port timing a little.

people usually do it because a 87-89 cly can only be bored out to 68mm.u can use a 86-89 yz piston thats 68.50 with a 2mm spacer plate. now a 85-86 r cly can be bored out to .140 thousands over.the engine i put one in had lots of midrange up power and has a wicked hit.
