300ex kick-start

Hi,

I'm not sure if this has been discussed or not. I checked some archived posts, but did not see any discussion of it.

Has anyone installed a kick-start on a 300ex? I was out trail-riding a few weeks ago and when we all stopped to talk for a minute my 300 stalled and the battery was dead, because we were riding on dirt and gravel, there was no way we could push start it.

I ended up getting towed out by my neighbor riding his son's litttle Kawasaki 110 dirt bike.

Any help would be appreciated.

First of all welcome to the site.

You may be better off getting a 250x motor or better yet a 350x motor since they are both already kickstart. The 350x motor is supposed to be a very easy (and fast) upgrade. I think you only need to fabricate some mounts and a pipe. The 250x motor will bolt up with no modifications.

So I gather that simply installing a kick-start from either the 250 or 350 is not possible or is not worth the time and effort.

I've never seen a kit or anything. If there was one I would think it would be almost as expensive as an engine upgrade. I wish they would've put a backup for starting the 300's too. I'd just try to find solid ground and pop it in 2nd or 3rd. I've thought about trying to come up with a compact set of jumper cables I could carry with me just for that reason.

The jumper cables would be a good idea, but would not have worked for me. I was the only one on 4 wheels everyone else was on two wheels (no batteries).

We tried push starting a few times but all we ended up doing is leaving long skid marks.

u got two options. 250x motor = kickstart but less power

350 motor = kickstart and more power.

Its an easy choice for me. Go with the 250x duh. jk. the 350 is a great mod and not that hard to do. but u will have to fund a good motor or rebuild one.

Yes it can be done.
You will need to machine the case cover and will need the kick lever and gears from a 250x.

what about 250 botom and 300 jug i always thought a 350x was pullstart also did u try pusin it in 5th gear that works and st onit and get ur buddys ta push ya

Putting a 300ex jug on a 250x bottom end will do nothing. I will still be a 250x and a 350x has a kick start.
