just wondering what it takes for a 400ex to keep up with the raptor and predator? i know many say that with the bolt-ons along with a cam/piston combo that they have beaten the raptors. however, does that mean in a 300ft drag or on top end?

I think guys that say bolt on mods are beating raptors and predators are telling stories.

In the dirt I'll barely pull on a stock raptor and a piped raptor or predator will beat me.

In the sand, I beat piped raptors, and stock/piped predators any where from a quad length to 3 quad lenghts.

Thats in a 300ft drag, not sure with top end, but i think in the long run a raptor has the faster top end compared to my 15/36 gearing.

I will smoke stock raptors and stock preds with mine.

with my almost bone stock 400ex(just a rev mod, big deal) i can pull stock or piped preds out the hole but they beat me by 1/2-1/4 quad lengths. i pull stock raps but they beat me by about 1-2 quads and piped raps just plain beat me(holeshot to end). this is on a 300ft dirt drag. on sand i dont know because i have never raced either in sand

I can out run stock raptors and banshees in 300 ft. and on top end. My cousin has a raptor with a uni air filter, curtis sparks X-6 full exhaust system, and a curtis sparks degree key, me and him are dead even until he reaches his top speed then I pull away. I have beaten a few piped banshees. I have only raced one predator. It was stock. It was a close race, I was in front by only a couple of quad lengths until he got wide open, then I just pulled away. We raced about 4 or 5 times, the results were the same each time. And for the record, I am still running stock gearing and tires.

my friend has a 400ex with stage 2 hotcam, fmf pipe, K&N with no lid and he can run with a stock raptor till 4th gear or so. Then they pull away.

who did you all get your porting done by? i was thinking about this but i don't know if it is worth it or not. i also thought about an fcr carb but thats a lot of $$$ when mine is working just fine.

(sigh) Yeah, if you haven't gone into the engine and just have bolt on mods. You aren't gonna touch a raptor. My friend have a raptor with an e-series and a K&N...and I beat him 2 out of 5. It was pretty much who got the better start. It was only a 300ft drag so we didn't hit top end long enough for it to matter...the raptor would win if we had a longer field.

I have beat raptors and preds at my local drags. I have a 400ex with fmf exhust, k&n, no air box lid and stock gears. I get them out of the hole by 3-4 quad lenghts and 1-2 by the end in a 300ft race.

My 416EX would beat my Rappy when it(the Rappy) was piped only in a 300 foot drag. Any longer than that, and my Raptor would catch up and leave my 416. Havn't raced them since I did my 727, but I'm sure my Raptor's 25 RWHP advantage would put a hurt'in on the little 416. It takes a really built EX to run with a properly tuned piped Raptor. I was only ever beat by one EX. My buddies 440, Stage 2, fully ported, X6 piped, 39mm FCR'd EX was able to BARELY beat me. He's currently building an Alky 465 to level the playing field. :D

sorry i may have been confusing you about what i said. i said, or tried to say, that i have heard of people beating raptors with boltons and a cam/piston combo. i was not just talking about only exterior boltons. i thought i confused a few of you by saying that. i rode a raptor and i realize that no piped, filter, and jetted 400ex is going to keep up with a raptor. however, it would be nice.:D

I usually dont buy into the fact that when someone says i can pull this bike and that bike out of the hole. Pulling a bike out of the hole can usually just mean who has a better reaction time to dropping a clutch.

dude im telling you that i can beat them both with what i have. of course a 400 cant keep up with somthing that has 6 gears comparied to 5

MY EX DOESNT HAVE ANY RPOBLEMS WITH MANY BIKES ANY MORE. NOW THAT I HAVE THE BOTTLE I HAVE YET TO BE BEAT. BY ANY BIKE. I EAT BANSHES WIT PIPES AND ALL ON THE PAVEMENT.

Well if top end really matters I know national 416's will take a rappy.

But in a trail a pred or raptor have no chance. Even on a mx track. Here the kid that is winning one of the classes has a stock motored and stock suspended 400ex:rolleyes: But last weekend I was riding my dads 400ex, just has a pipe. My friend on the raptor couldnt keep up, we are almost equal riders too, mind you this was on a trail. To me drags dont matter.

i thought the raptor only has five gears. i know i have a magazine that says that, but it could be a misprint.

A raptor has 5 gears, a banshee has 6. The number of gears doesn't matter, its the gear ratios in the transmission. A warrior and a blaster both have 6 gears and a stock 400 can out run them.

I have a ross pistoned 426, hot cam stage II, porting by legacy
atv, sparks x-4, 16t counter shaft sprocket, no choke on stock carb, no box lid, uni filter, and I weighed 240+ when I ran
a piped preadator, piped raptor, stock raptor, and a few other
400exs, ltzs etc...After I beat the polaris, they put their "rider" on
it who weighed 140 and I got, him too.

My YFZ450 is faster than my 440ex with 11.5:1 ross piston, hotcam statge 2, white brothers pro meg exhaust, flowed head, and rev box.

I still love my Honda though!

It better! The YFZ still has more compression, more radical profiled cams, a bigger carb, and is lighter.

how long of a race where these?

what is the compression of the YFZ's? is it 12.1:1? how can these run off of 91 octane?

just my 2 cents here but in 200ft drag i have seen a 416 take the by beating or just wooping DS650's, YFZ's , Preds, and raptors. Dont know about 300ft or top end, but in 200ft it seemed like the honda pulle harder out of the hole.

No doubtthe YFZ has a good motor, mostly cause it is yamahas best motor:rolleyes: Just like the crf450 is the best motor hondas got. We will see in... 6 days:eek: I have a feeling the crf will not be crappier than the YFZ, its either gunna be the same or better. I can almost gaurantee a more reliable and better handling machine. I like the yfz, but only for its power. I sat on one.... and its a little bigger than a blaster. When your 6'3" its a little small:) At the tracks around here, they get usually get the whole shot, but right afterthat they are cooked.
