Alright ex-ers,

I'm getting the itch for a dirtbike. My first thought is to get a CR250R bike. I really want something that is quick and fast. I've ridden a few bike over the years so I'm not a newbie to bikes. I talked to a friend who had a KX80 and KX125 about 5 years ago and he said the 250R would be way too much for just about anyone (ie it wheelies like crazy). I weigh about 220 and am looking for something that'll move me pretty good.

I just need advise with any of you guys experience with this bike.
I want to know:
1. Is it too wheelie happy when you gun it?
2. Hows the reliability with the 2 stroke?

I want it to fart around the farm, no competetive racing. Just basic dirt road riding with the occasional full throttle, how fast can this really go moment.

Any advise, knowledge, or comments are greatly appreciated.

A 250 probably isn't the smartest bike to start on. They tend to have violent powerbands (the CR especially). However, they are more ridable than a 125 is, because they have a lot more low end grunt. At 220, you are a little too heavy to be on a 125, as they are catered more towards the 140-180lb group. You may want to look at a 250F. The big 4 manufacturers each have a 250F model out for 2004. They are much more rideable than a 125/250, more reliable, and just a better overall beginner bike since you can just lug them around, and you dont need to be at 8-10k RPMs just to make power. A 250F actually makes more HP than your 400EX, so it isn't slow by any means. Coupled with a much lighter chassis (than the quad), you won't be bored with it any time soon.

Hondafox thanks for the advise. I'll do some research to see if there are other bikes that may interest me.

at 220lbs... I dont think a 250F is gonna cut it,I'd get something you can grow into power-wise...like a 400-450F,The Cr250 is a mean bike but if you have any sort of throttle control I think you'd be fine, take your time and see if anyone will let ya "put-around" to get an idea ,good luck to ya
