If you bought a digital camcorder, it should have a firewire port on it. Plug it into firewire port on your computer. May or may not have to buy the firewire cord seperately, and maybe a card. If your comp doesn't have firewire, you can get one for like 50 bucks at Circuit City. The camera also should ahve come with editing software. Use the software to help transfer the vid from the cam to the computer. I think you can use the USB too but it is really slow.

I dont have firewire, but I heard it ALOT laster to transfer than straight off the Port. I dont recall any software with my camcorder, but if its anything like the software that came with my camera..it sucks.......:grr: Ill have to go and check into that firewire program..:)

chucked, you don't ahve to ahve digital, but it is a lot easier. hi8 is just a higher resolution analog format. you will need something like this to export the analog video from your camcorder to your pc http://www.circuitcity.com/detail.jsp?c=1&b=g&catoid=-10266&qp=0&bookmark=bookmark_2&oid=75537 there are a bunch of other alternatives available, just stop by circuit city or best buy and see

you should be alright, i work in the audio/vid department at circuit city... i know the basic stuff about the camcorders. don't know much about the computer portion of it!
