Why am I burning threw brake pads for the 400 so quick. I just put my third pair on about 8 rides ago and they are worn to the bone. I use ebc the good ones. i am not even that hard on my brakes. Any suggestions would be great.

Ditch the E-brake and get a blockoff plate first thing. Also be sure and polish up the brake pins that the pads ride on. Other than that there isnt much you can do they just eat em up quick.

I believe you can use Mohave brakes on it also, they are a bit thicker. Most likely the caliper is not "floating" on the disk.I am assuming you are talking about the rear(front is the same).Take the caliper off and clean up the slide(make sure it moves in and out). This will take care of the problem, make sure it dosn't bind or stick.

Okay let me get this right. should I polish or lightly sand down my rotor that the pads stop on and the caliber makes sence because if it is dragging it will eat it up. My stock pads lasted so much longer what brand should i get??? yes this is the rear brakes

Do not sand the caliper. It won't hurt it but thats a waste of time(unless it is ate up bad....pitted).Is the rotor warped?Your problem is most likely the caliper not floating with the rotor. It should move side to side(towards the tires). You wont be able to move it while it is on the rotor so take it off like you were going to change pads and inspect it.Taco is refering to the 2 bolts that go through the pads, this is a worthy ideal as well, but I am 99% sure that the caliper is locked up and will not "float" with the rotor. One dead give away would be the pads being more worn on one side than the other.

i've found that the parking brake likes to hang up. if you use your parking brake alot that might be the problem.

If the pads are wearing even, it's the environment. If you ride in a lot of mud, you'll go through pads like crazy. Solid (undrilled) aftermarket rotors are supposed to help prolong pad life for mud riding.

What kind of results are you getting with the mohave pad setup?

brake pads i would reccomend most are either stock 400ex pads or galfer pads w/ galfer rotors(either wave or standard)

stock honda pads are probably your best bet for pad life, or i have galfer and they seem to be holding up quite nicely. ditch the parking brake, if they still get eaten up, come back and do some of the other stuff said.

Mohave pads a a bit thicker,no difference in performance just last a bit longer.

Try putting stock pads back on. From my experience, EBC sucks.

Agreed. EBC suck, go with OEM Honda pads, and make sure your rotor is not too worn. I've got a galfer rotor and stock pads, last long time. Service honda stock pads $25.

I say poop on EBC and all of them...Get Sintered pads.......I have been running them for about 3 months and I race MX...They are only about 4 dollars more, you cannot go wrong with them. I will never run anything else again......

I think they are harder then normal pads.....but the reason your other ones wear is because of crap in the rotor....these just won't wear from that as easily....I don't know about you, but I don't use brakes that much anyway :blah:
