I was wondering how many people out there that race mx still have their stock 400ex clutch plates and all that? Has anyone had to replace theirs (I'm sure many people), how long did it last you. I've had my 400 for 2 years now and just started racing mx and I've noticed now that my clutch is starting to act up. Like drops gears and makes a clung noice sometimes like something is raddling around in there when you shift at low speed. Now it doesn't do this all the time but once in a while I think that it's prolly getting ready to go. Please let me know what all you have done and if this has happened to you. What should I get for mx racing? All the hinson stuff or what? thanks

I'm sure that's your problem. I don't know how you manage to get 2 yrs out of clutches though. When they start to really go, the motor will rev out, but you won't be going any faster, kinda like revving with the clutch in. I would just go back to the stock cluthes they are as strong as anything. I've heard great things about the sparks 8 plate setup too, but have no first hand experience with them. Good luck.

I had a 2000 400ex with 416kit, camed, carbed, ported, and even with that motor the stock clutch held up just fine for me. Never had a problem, and I raced hard mx.

Ty I would get the Hinson Basket and Sparks 8 plate setup. You really shouldn't need all that other Hinson stuff, unless the stock is messed up. TC told me to run it until it went out. If you do the clutch though, you might as well put a Piston and Cam in it.

thanks for the help. I'll be sure to keep my eye on it, but it was just acting really weird that day. I'll see what it does next time I ride.

I've had my 400 for three years and have race mx two of those years, and it is still holding up fine.
