You can make it run to race and all but I would reccomend a 400EX just for the susupension...........250EX are limited to suspension even w/aftermarket stuff.......take care of your back ,it will not bother you now but I guarenntee it will later if you abuse it......I rode a few bulls in my younger years and now I am over 40 and sometimes it 'll kill me...not to be mean but you need a 400 , my son had a 250ex and it was nite and day going to my 400......take care of yourself.....BIGRED400

hey if u race the GNC nationals u can race a 250 in youth production (14-15yr.) (91cc-300cc) i raced that class this year its pretty much a blaster, 300 and 250ex class or Aircooled which is like 16yr. and up! good luck!

Don't fool yourself by thinking you can't beat a 400EX. It just depends on the size of the jumps and track in general. I raced a 300EX, 250X and a 400EX on my friends kinda tight track with jumps that get you about 5-6 feet of air and I won all the race's but one. The one I lost It just got done raining and I came in a corner too hot and spun out. The 400EX won that race. I was able to land from that 5 1/2 feet of air on the jumps and not bottom. There was no landing ramp, either. The front end on the 250EX likes to bottom out but if you land flat or with the front hitting first just a bit it doesn't bottom.

So my advice is just go for it. Just don't hit any large doubles. If you make it the 250EX will take it great but if you come up short, it will let you know about it and hard.;)

Trust me man I know what its like casing doubles on a 250, i cased a 25ft double right out of a turn, an i clipped my back wheels on the top of the landing, that was painful, my axle bent almost 90 degreesn and i got thrown liks 15 feet...i didn't break anything on me, but i cracked my swing arm, and had to weld it, then i got a durablue axle...I would like to try racing though, just for fun though (the jumps...lol) jumping is one thing i can do, my shocks on my ex are so worn out its funny, the jumps i do are on a personel dirtbike track, so u can probably guess how hard the landings are. But with a good landing i can do a 25' jump without too much bottoming.

It just takes a little practice on the landings. I remember when I first got mine I would bottom the front end out off 2 1/2 feet of air. Now It takes 6 feet before I bottom out if I do it right.

I really don't want to turn it into something it isn't so I just am gonna do basic mods. I consider my 250EX a sporty trail machine. I like MX but my trip to Turkey Bay made me wanna be a trail rider more. Those trails down there could change anyone's mind.

Also, for trails and stuff, the 250EX kicks arse! I raced a 300EX and a 250X bored .40 over up a hill in the woods and beat the 300EX by 3 quad lengths and the 250X by 5. It was about a 300 feet long race. The 250EX has quite a bit of bottom end to pull on other quads like that. I have dragged a 400EX, 300EX, 250X, and a few toher sport quads and I would always take the off the line. On flat ground the 300EX would catch up and pass me eventually and the 400EX would fly by me halfway through. I kept the lead on the 250X though.

I think if the 250EX didn't wimp out on top end, it would be a very sweet machine. I love the powerband for the trails because it is nice and consistent but once I get wide open, the power starts to fall off. Top end power just isn't there.

Basically, my point is that the 250EX will surprise you with it's competition capability just don't try to make it something it isn't. As long as you don't have trick $30,000 250r's or a 400EX loaded with chit from every manufacturer you know of, and the track isn't to big, go ahead and trick the 250EX out because it is very capable on a track that doesn't have to get into the 250EX's dead spot in the powerband.

Happy Riding! God knows I can't for all the friggin rain!

Yea, bottom end is there...I race a KFX400, KT< 125SX, and a shee, and I take off through 1st, 2nd, and mid 3rd before they eventually blow by me. But you are so very right. The 250EX has no top end once so ever.

i race disctrit hare scrambles in the blaster class and dont do bad at all. all i really have on my bike is a full exhasut and tires. we start a minie behind the 4 stroke c class and i end up passing 99% if not all of them. its 90% rider 10% bike. most of em wont let me by cause im on a little ex and there on a moddded Z so i either give em a little tap or yell like hell. for mx on a 250ex get shocks with or without rezzies off ebay an exhast and a set of 18 inch holeshots and give it hell.
