Does anyone have a tach on their 400? I've been searching the net and the ony thing i seem to come up with is a digital tach from Denis Kirt for like 50 bucks. I was hoping to find a small analog guage as opposed to a digital.

Any ideas?

There was a guy down at the gravel pit yesterday with a digital tach off a yamaha on his tricked out 250x. I can't remember what model it was off of.

Ron Woods Racing has an Autometer tachometer kit for the 400EX for $225. It has a 2 and 5/8 inch or a 3 3/4 inch 10,000 RPM tach with no shift lite. I think it is the 2 and 5/8 inch one. It is silver with a silver or white face and simply plugs into the stock ignition. You can get information at www.rotax.net or looking in magazines. We are palnning on getting a new 400EX (yellow) from Oklahoma for $5000. I think that the tach and a Yoshimura slip on muffler with K&N would be the first mods. Any suggestions?

Autometer makes motorcycle specific tachs. Look on Autometers web site.

We need to figure out somehow if a street bike one will work with a single cylinder. You can get street bike tachs on ebay for like $30

The seller said it would hold up to the abuse. What do you think?

I dont think a street bike tach would work. My ninja bike has 2 coils, which is what those things usually get their signal from. When I went to install a shift light I had to take a lead off one of the coils and use a RPM "pill" for half the rpm's I wanted, like a 6000rpm pill for a 12,000rpm shift indication (it's a revver).
I know on the autometer tachs, you need to tell the tach how many cylinders the motor has, 4, 6 or 8 via a switch or wires you cut. I'm sure their motorcycle tachs are set up for 1,2,3, or 4 cyls.

I have a 250x and would like to know if there is a way to install one. A tach would be really nice for drags.

dont quote me for sure but i used to work at a bomber dealer and i dont know if the ds650 tach would work. it has the revlimiter in it. when they were trying to get me to buy one i rode one and hit the low rev limiter way too easy, our salesman said that he could get me the hi rev tach for like $140
bombers also have dianostic stuff in the tach, or maybe thats just the 4x4's

you could always ask
